I had to laugh, after posting the story this morning I found two messages from her on my answerphone.
The first message she left on my answerphone at 11.00PM last night and a second message at 6.30AM this morning, moaning that nobody had bothered to call her back yet! It’s hard enough to earn a crust in this game, with people like her we have no chance at all.

ParticipantRe: Connect on-line cheaper than Indesit?
Connect prices are the best laugh available in these dark times.
Where do they think them up. I was looking for a Bosch motor last week, Connect wanted £162, I got it from Qualtex for £87 and it was a genuine Bosch part. :rolls:Gazman1000

I have not been in the book since I moved to Bedfordshire two years ago.
I’m on Yell.com but only one listing this year.
They have out priced themselves, far too expensive for the return in revenue.Gazman1000
ParticipantRe: When to ring a customers neck…or not
I had a call booked for Monday a job in Milton Keynes(20 miles away) the woman made the appointment about a week ago. As a precaution I phoned her on Monday morning to make sure she was going to be home after 1pm as arranged. “Oh yes I’ll be here” She said.
Got there at 1.45 no reply to the door bell. so thinking she may be in the garden I phoned her. She said “I’m out at the park with the kids, I’ll have to make it another day” I told her I would bill her for wasting my time, she said “what you on about you aint done nufing”
Where my shotgun!ARGGGHHHH! 👿

Been very quiet again here. Monday only one call, the phone did not ring till gone 3.00. Got a couple of jobs in for today but nothing much else for the rest of the week, so far.
I took £400 last week, that was takings not profit. This trade is going the same way as the brown goods repair trade went in the 90s.
Try finding a TV repair shop in any high street now, they’ve all gone. At one time they were everywhere and very profitable.
It will only be a matter of time before we go the same way, with sealed drums and many machines being sold so cheap, who will want a repair in 10 years time, will we still be able to repair them in 10 years time. It’s not looking good in the short term and it’s looking even worse in the long term. :sadder:

You remove the parts and leave it not working. Done it many times, funny a lot of times they find the money before it gets to that stage.
The other trick is to tell them you only work for the company you are not allowed to give credit, no money no fix. Simples!
Above all let them know how much the job is going to cost before you start fitting parts.

I’m aware they take a slice but that is not a problem if they pay up on time. I don’t want to get into a situation where I have to chase them for my money or get messed around for payment.

I had a call form then on Tuesday, told him I’d look at the site. Looked at it did not like it, he won’t be getting me to sign up. Del boy could build a better looking site with the help of Rodders the little plonker. 😆
I had to laugh at the sales pitch “We only have 97 spaces left” And there between his ears. 😉

ParticipantRe: Is it me OR I’m missing something
I have used an old vax cleaner for years in the back of the van, nothing worse than lying on a wet kitchen floor after dropping the sumphose, but in town it would not be good in an upstairs flat or tower block. to chuffin heavy to cart around.

A very well known Printer Co, sets a print limit on thier printers you can get software on cdrom to reset the page count and it all works again. The display tells the user to call their helpline, and an engineer calls to clean the printer and service it, at a price.

ParticipantRe: Exploding Fridges
The whole use of R600a needs to be looked at, quite a few leak but so far no ignition to wreak havoc of the many that fail due to poor pipe work joints or corrosion with age causing an internal leak, the ones that get away as it were. I write off a lot of units that leak internally where the leak cannot be located, we already have to do this with R134 because of the regs.
The worry is there are no regs in place for an potentially explosive refrigerant like R600a, this is madness. It is only a matter of time before someone gets killed by a leak that meets an ignition source, the Samsung problem is only the tip of the iceberg in the longer term I fear many problem to come, and where will it leave us in the trade. It is only a matter of time before a cowboy tradesman fills a system with far too much gas after a leak that is not sealed and get hurt or killed as a result, maybe after the event someone in a position of power will do something.Gazman1000
ParticipantRe: Condensation in back of van
It’s due to a lack of air circulation moist air gets trapped and condensation forms on any cold surface, do you have a sealed bulkhead behind the drivers seat? My van had the same problem only after the bulkhead was fitted.
The only cure is to cover the cold roof panel with insulation I used an old carpet off cut and glued it to the inside of the roof, you could fit a spinning roof vent like they fit on police dog vans, that would expel any moisture in the air as the van is driven. -
