Re: Guidance on premature failure of replacement bearings

I have seen them much worse but ideally there would be none of the lines on the seal face that you can clearly see in your picture.

Belt tension etc is not a cause of bearingS failing IMHO.

Not easy to see on the iPad but there does appear to be some small score marks on the sealing collar.

Thanks for that info, may be a little late in this instance as she said she wants a new dryer but worth knowing about for the future.

Re: JL (Zanussi) T Dryer dead?

Could the fact that it was plugged into a socket that had reverse polarity have been likely to have caused the failure, if there had been a power surge for instance?

Re: Guidance on premature failure of replacement bearings

By far the most common cause of premature bearing failure when the drum shaft or drum support spider has not also been replaced is due to damage on the drum shaft itself. If the bearings have been left to long before they were replaced then damage to the part of the drum shaft or collar that seats against the seal is such that a proper seal is not possible.

A picture of the removed drum showing the drum shaft would confirm.

Would be grateful if you could point it out, just scrolled through the whole thread twice and couldn’t see any mention of Zan/Lux T/D pcb’ ?

I’m intrigued, how do you stack on a top loader?

Wood chips?? Sounds like there is or was something in there that shouldn’t be. The shape of some seals do lend themselves to holding a drop of water, some even have tiny drain holes to help disperse this.

Did you remove the hose completely, there is an eco ball in the top of the hose that can get stuck. Is it possible to remove the under sink end of the grey outlet hose, fill the machine then set it to drain with the end of the hose going into your sink to check the outflow. Make sure you put the plug in the sink first. 😉 Sometimes a small button or a five pence coin get get into the pipe and restrict the flow as well.

Then it sounds as though you may have a partial blockage, could be in the sump hose from the drum to the drain pump. Small socks or similar can get into this hose.

Why do you have to clean the filter after every wash? Every washing machine that has ever been made always has a small amount of water left in the sump hose/pump after use. Perfectly normal situation. Some machines even have a small drain tube to allow you to drain this water into a low dish before removing the filter, something that you should do every few months at the most. We often encounter machines that have not had the filter removed for several years.

Water left in the fabric conditioner usually means the siphon tube in the conditioner compartment needs cleaning.

As mentioned above, faulty motor ‘should’ give a different error code, faulty main pcb will give F18.
