    Re: hotpoint wd61

Simply check the heater, internal toc can go OC. The control unit will advance the timer past the heat position after a set period if it senses no rise in temperature. Often a heater fault, rarely a control fault.

Copied from the top of that post.

‘Codes for most Hotpoint WF & WD machines without digital display.
To save my keyboard and avoid RSI these can be read in conjunction with Dave Conway’s post on page 3 of this thread regarding WIDL codes

Codes for machines with digital displays are the same.

This is one of those jobs on which it is easy to shift that type of customer, just spread all the bits about a bit and stand on their toes once or twice, they should get the message. 😉

Just searching for something else and spotted this one.

New door lock & motor end cap did the trick. 8)

Its a Bosch, On the face of it difficult to access, but once you have done it a few times not that bad. Some people turn them upside down to effect repairs but that is not the official, or IMHO the best way. You have to remove the door panel, front plinth, top and sides, release the door hinges and cords and lift the door away, unscrew a few bits and bobs in the sump and salt chamber and lift the whole of the inner cabinet off, after removing the screws that hold it to the base. 🙂 The last one I had leaking turned out to be a split heater box, if that is the case with yours, buy the Bosch one it is much cheaper.

I may be mistaken but I’m sure that Martin posted a picture of a Flatley dryer on here a good while back.

If it sounds normal then the chances are your bearings are OK. Brush change not as easy on these as on earlier Hotpoint machines though, also has two or three different motors.

The reason I asked for your serial number was that most people under estimate the age of their machine. Yours came through the factory gates in May 2001. 😉 Unless it laid around in a dealers or you can find your receipt then I would forget about a five year parts warranty. Brushes on these machines do last a little longer than on earlier models and five years is about right for average use.

NB. Do not keep trying it, you may end up damaging the control module if you do.

If you turn the drum by hand and it is noisy or if you pop the lower back panel off after removing the plug and you can see rusty marks on the chassis then your bearings have failed. Can be a very expensive repair, sometimes requiring drum support and rear drum half.

Remember that your machine is covered by the manufacturers five year parts warranty, you will only pay the £90 labour charge regardless of the parts required. You will not be able to buy a new machine for that price.

If you post the serial number from the door hinge here we would be able to have a decent guess as to the actual age of your machine.

Have a look at the lowest priced Bosch machines, not made in Germany but still built to much higher standards than Indesit and they include a full two year guarantee. you should be able to source one for less than £50 more than your Indesit.

To give you some idea http://tinyurl.com/jbxfa

NB. I do not endorse that particular supplier, you may still get as good a deal and you will certainly get better service from a local independent retailer.

In fact Argos even beat that price http://tinyurl.com/kf5kr £20 more than your dearest Indesit option, a ‘no brainer’ really. 😉
