Re: hotpoint WMS38 bearing change required?

I have all these parts in my garage, I’m afraid the lump hammer is the only tried and tested means but I insert a bolt with the correct thread to protect the end of the shaft. Even so the odd one will just not come out without doing serious damage. I have on occasion had to cut away or break the rear half of the drum to get at the bolts that secure the drum support spider to the inner drum. It can be such a pain to do , so much so that I do not do the bearing or drum shaft repair on the premises, I build up a complete inner/outer drum assembly in my garage and then I can change the whole unit in less than 1 hour. I believe that Hotpoint/Indesit are in the middle of a two week stocktaking exercise, it sounds as though the ‘parts coming into the UK’ was a load of flannel.

Like it, ISE is more than likely a better bet than ISA’s at the moment. 🙂

Kitchen fitters, bain of my life 🙄

If I had my way I would line them all up and shoot them, closely followed by most plumbers. They should all spend six months trying to repair appliances in fitted/integrated kitchens before they are set free on the general public.

I would estimate that the percentage of well installed, service friendly kitchens in this area is less than 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. 😥

Looks a bit like the Hotpoint DC21 range, I’ll just have to suck it and see. 🙂

EDIT. Phoned her to get Enr number, it is actually virtually the same as the Hotpoint 6820. At least I have a manual on that so its a start, although it is from 1993 🙂

Thats novel, I think the hamster may be blamed unfairly though, this hose is so weak and badly routed/protected that I carry one as stock, they rub away in several places. 😥

Comes as a plastic corrougated job now, take care when positioning the lower end to route the hose away from the damper. There is a little notch in it I think.

I used to be a Boy Scout, “Be Prepared” , watching the cricket whilst having my morning snack, done 4 calls early, back out to the coal face now. 😀
Looks like England are going to make us sweat again, never do it the easy way, Marcus T out already. 😥

    Re: Hotpoint WM73 bearing replacment

If the alloy bearing housing is loose in the nylon outer drum you will see black marks around the housing at the back, you may even see a small crack all the way around the housing. New machine time if the housing is loose. Only cure is a new outer drum, around £120 for the part.

    Re: Hotpoint WM73 bearing replacment

If the dust is very black rather than a rusty colour then you may have a more serious problem. The alloy casting that the bearings fit into can on rare occasions come loose within the nylon drum. This leads to the black dust, the bearings usually cause a rusty stain on the floor/chassis. For very good legal and safety reasons we cannot go into blow by blow details of a bearing change, safe to say you will need a degree of mechanical competance and of course to do the job ‘correctly’ the correct tools to refit the bearings without damaging them. you should also replace the drum seal, if you don’t it will almost certainly leak.

Sorted, little blob of solder, job done. pity the morning was spoilt by having to fit a sump and sump retaining ring (bit of plastic) to a 6 month old Hotpoint(Indesit) dishwasher, what an a**e of a job. You walk away with no feeling of satisfaction or permanence in the repair. 😥

You will also need to examine the heating element, a drum support in this condition will quite possibly have cut through the heater casing. BTW, that damage is caused by incorrect detergent dosage/use of inferior quality detergents and over use of economy features, you have not done enough ‘hot’ washes.

Bearings are easy to fit, with the correct tools/experience.

This one of mine had a new motor 2 years ago, I wouldn’t want to referee, having to decide who got the end product.

Does anyone know the height of the lower edge of the Bosch top loader control panel?
