Re: Hotpoint WDAL8640 – Rumbling goods train / steam tractor

You may just be lucky and have caught it in time, it usually/eventually rips the weight right off the front of the drum. :rolls:

Best way to access is by removing the outer lip of the rubber door seal. 😉

Could be loose concrete balance weight, totally sealed drum may already be damaged beyond repair. Is it noisy if you spin the drum by hand through the door aperture ?

RIP Dave Mackay, without a doubt the hardest player I have ever seen, never, ever saw him make a ‘dirty’ tackle though. He made Vinnie Jones look like a fairy. 🙂

    Same as THESE

Ignore the flashing lights, error codes are given with the right hand vertical lights on steady, counting from BOTTOM to TOP. 😉

The codes in that diagram are shown from right to left, far right being light 1.

I’m guessing you mean the mains filter or suppressor. 😉

If the display is totally dead it could just be poor connections between the facia/control pcb and the main power pcb.

If all connections are sound then both pcb’s need to be visually examined for any obvious component failure.

If there is nothing obvious it would point to main pcb failure but a fault such as you describe is very rare indeed. This machine is generally very reliable on the electronics side.

It doesn’t matter as long as you replace the connectors with insulated AMP tags.

Those clips are purely a cost saving exercise. :rolls:

You would be better of buying the Smeg one for a tenner. 😉

Impossible to identify from that rather poor Fleabay picture but it is fairly recent production, overpriced at £150 even when new though. :rolls:

No one is more critical of the quality of current Indesit appliances, my tongue was firmly in cheek when first posting but it is getting much harder to recommend anything even mid range these days.
Surely Bosch don’t use cheaper motors in their basic machines. I still fail to understand why so few manufacturers don’t use fast blow fuses as Hotpoint used to do on their pcbs.

Only Indesit engineers have access to this information.

Funnily enough wires don’t ‘come off ‘ timers. They are pulled off due to careless handling or by someone who hasn’t made a careful note of their positions beforehand. 😉

Knowing this customer very well indeed I would say the chances of her or anyone else in the house doing a reset are virtually nil.

The machine is well used but so was the old Hotpoint she got 15 years from.

Neither of them low end, sealed drum models.

    Re: Hotpoint SDW85 not heating

First of all let me say that to continue to use any appliance with such a fault that you know about is very ill advised to say the least. :rolls:

The heating element is accessible by removing the base and needs testing for insulation leaks. The resistance is immaterial with this fault.

There is only one thermistor which is hard wired to the PCB in any case and is not a likely source of the initial fault. The pcb does not need programming on these.

The most common place for wiring breaks is inside the door near the hinges but TBH these Indesit machines rarely last long enough for the harness to deteriorate to that extent.

    You could try this. 😉

Set selector switch to the 6 o’clock position , hold the spin speed button , turn the selector switch one click clockwise and after a couple of seconds release the spin speed button. It may still show F21, switch off and switch back on and it should clear, may need a few attempts. 🙁

Highly unlikely, most common causes are heater or main circulation motor down to earth.
You need to test these and all other components for insulation faults with a megger or suitable multimeter.

    Fault codes

Blocked drain pump filter a common cause. 😉
