Are the brushes like THESE ?

If so then you can usually change them with the motor in situ. They do just slot in but be sure to release the new brushes by lifting the small locking tab on the top.
Ideally the commutator should be cleaned with a comm stick but as long as you blow away all the carbon dust you should be ok.

Thermal spin, perfectly normal part of its operation. 😉

Just checked and there is a mistake in those codes, 1, 2, 3 is a water inlet turbine failure.

First things first, I am an ex Hotpoint engineer with over 46 years experience of these machines, I am giving you the full benefit of that. If the brushes failed in the first place then at least one of the brushes is at the very extent of its possible wear, in other words it will not be making very good contact with the comm, it will arc badly under load and either blow the TOC in the motor or more likely blow tracks off the control unit, it could also damage the motor armature.

You do of course have a perfect right to completely ignore my freely given advice. :rolls:

Merged threads, it only gets messy if you don’t keep it in one place. 😉

And avoid any washer dryer if at all possible. 😉 Also note that a lot of Zanussi machines are coming in from China. 🙁

You should NOT run it until you have replaced the brushes, there is a very high possibility that it will arc across the comm and blow a very expensive timer. :lesson:

Motor brushes and door interlock are both reasonable cost repairs but it is not a machine that warrants any real expenditure. 🙁

Could be motor brushes or faulty door lock, not the greatest machine on the market TBH.

I would guess that 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of WMA’s that get to this age will have those marks on the door. Often caused by trying to wash badly balanced loads, under loading with heavy, single items or overloading. At the age of this machine the suspension units will more than likely be worn.

Easy to check, plug out, top off and press down hard on the top concrete weight then release quickly. The drum should not ‘bounce’ but go down then up and stop.

If the spring is in good condition then you should change the door interlock switch ASAP. Although if the spring has never been changed it is long overdue.

The first thing to do is remove the mains plug and check the motor brushes.

Re: Hotpoint WMA 30 Door switch

First thing to check is the door latch spring, accessible by splitting the door panels. I would strongly advise against your wife’s actions, a faulty door interlock on these will often take out the main £100 pcb if not attended to.

If you Google for a 1603332 spring you will see what it should look like.

Lots of great goals but yet again far too many shockingly poor decisions from the match officials, both of the pens that Liverpool got where ridiculous, especially the first one, and how on earth did the linesman or refs assistant not see Rob Green handling a yard out of his box. 😈
