KeymasterIn all honesty, if the hob is at an age where parts are obsolete you may be as well to consider replacing it unless there are any implications due to special size or something of that ilk.

KeymasterThanks P, that may be very useful experience indeed as we’ve probably all got chuff all experience between us beside yourself.
No doubt when the opinion thing goes live we’ll need to formulate a press release etc., but we’ll cross tht bridge, etc.

Keymaster1Mb connection now at work, I’ll try it when it’s quiet, if ever. 😕
According to Trevor backing up slows the site down but it is now done weekly onto the server so that’s better than no backup.

KeymasterHi Krispy,
Dave will most likely answer this in the morning, but is there any more detail on the oven than that?

KeymasterIt has been a bone of contention with me in the past, particularly with BER’s that we are expected to produce more paperwork and spend more time, incurr more costs by the use of the fax for less returns on contract work reports. Some insurers are especially bad for this, including the old “oh, we never recieved that report” nonsense.
I now also, due to the very nature of the control systems in modern appliances, state that we cannot determine any further faults on the appliance as very often, especially in the case of a duff PCB, you can’t test it to see if there is any further fault or reason for the PCB failing until it is replaced.

KeymasterHi Peter,
Search the forums for “E2 error” as there’s loads here on it.

KeymasterWell no Del, what they’re talking about is having to have a “safety inspection” on any insured appliance, a kick the tyres kinda thing just to make sure it’s okay.
So essentially, they are talking about if the appliance is insured then it has to have an annual inspection.
Needless to say if I’m asked to do such work I will not be placing any warranty on the appliances other than the old, “it’ll be good till I walk out the door” warranty.

KeymasterSuperb sparkey, at least I’m not the only one that’s gotten a bit of work through the site and having people tell me about it.
Just proves it does work.

KeymasterHi Simon,
We get this all the time, in fact I sometimes spend half my day writing out reports which is, in effect, transferring the engineers scrawl to something that is legible and makes sense. 😉
Don’t comment on the appliance, it’s not our place to do so in such circumstances. Just plainly detail the fault, the reason it failed if there is one evident (like customer misuse) and the cost to put it right. Other than that you shouldn’t need to have anything other than the obvious details and maybe the spec of the machine in some cases.
It’s fine to say something like “in our opinion we would consider the appliance to be beyond econommical repair” but don’t get emotive or slag of the product, even if you know it’s junk. 😉
That’ll keep out of trouble, should eliminate any liablity and save you saying something that may come back to haunt you later, been there, done that, got the t-shirt. 🙄

KeymasterRe: New Approaches
I agree wholeheartedly but it may well be, to a large part, down to me to make that a bit clearer on the site and it will become clearer in time.
What I think we should do the first time that this goes into something tangible like a magazine article is to respectfully ask that any media enquiries are directed to site admin to handle. That way we have an excuse to basically do that, either that or I’ll dream up somehing for the Moderator forum later, which I may do anyway. In all fairness Chris and Martin should probably be made aware of what may well happen anyway to some degree as they may well have to deal with some of it or additional stuff due to it.
I don’t honestly think that anyone else will be asked for such information as it’s mostly all our names that are highlighted on the site being the high profile people we’re far more liable to have anything directed towards us anyways.
But we will have to have a “Press Release” section at some point as well I guess, especially if the Engineer’s Opinion takes off as that’s the one thing that will get attention.

KeymasterAdvert placed again in yesterdays Scottish Sunday Mail, must not have had a decent response the first time around.
Now, I wonder why that is? 😆
