ParticipantRe: Went to work in my pyjamas…
Did a door handle kit replacement for a close relative. Had to visit to them to get the model no, as they had no idea, get the part, called back another day at a pre arranged time and then wait 30 min as they got delayed. They asked how much and l being an idealist told them the price of the part £5, and that is what l got.
I had hoped they would add extra to cover costs, not even a gesture. Nada.
That was around 18 months ago, they rang around 6 months ago asking if l would replace the on/off button.
I just cant seem to find the time.:P

The dutch embassy in Kensington London doesn’t have electric gates.
Eric Claptons yacht didn’t have any either.
Antonio Bandera’s neighbours did and armed guards before.
La Zagaleta estate in Marbella has ANPI number plate recognition, armed guards escorting you to the private villas electronic gates watched over with peeps in dark glasses and large pecs.

I really wouldn’t concern yourself to much about this. That’s for NAC Management to worry about?
See that is where we differ and why i’ve never been forced to take cash from a client and only give it back when a tv program turns up.
What I would say though is if NAC Ever closed its doors, it would do owing no engineer a penny. You do understand that as engineers pay NAC, then if anything, it would be the other way around 😉 :rolls:
My point was that some less experienced people may believe your hype, get a good volume of work, take on more costs, staff to then have it fall apart.
Someone tried fixed price repairs for his own repair company. It went tits up.
Now had that person made a success in any of his ventures i’d be inclined to think that that ability to succeed could adapt to this venture and all would be fine and dandy.
Its always a risk, the world is full of sharks, its less of a surprise though if you are aware who has the teeth and minimise the risk by not swimming so close.

As for NAC’s ending comments, the public information currently available regarding business cash, standing etc etc and the available registered engineers available on there site would suggest those comments have yet to be proven and achievable in any significant numbers.
It may well be the aim of the business promotion model, but the practicalities of that model being benificial to both parties l suspect is unlikely.
In a country uniquely full of extended warranties for example someone is bound to buy into the business model and a small percentage may well take out more than they placed into it, l fear the majority will just pay for NAC’s managements lifestyle as opposed to bettering there’s.

Its as annoying as the peopl9e with there cupboards full of s88t and they say sorry l didn’t think you needed to get in there.
Its not your age, society longer needs to think. The internet, tv, news, adverts all geared up to tell us what we need.
Schools don’t teach subjects leaving students to think of the answers in an exam using the knowledge of the subject. Instead the students are learning to pass the exam. All thanks to league tables.
Same in our industry. You get a group of school levers together and teach them the science of how a dishwasher works and then give an example of a fault and ask for possible causes and most of the time you get a blank expression. You have to physically show them a blocked pump. Even if you placed 10 different makes of appliance and asked each to remove a blockage they struggle to work out how to remove it. Show them how each one is accessed, no issue usually. But unfamilar appliances a look of doom usually appears.
To get back on topic. No its not your age or the man flu, people don’t think there irritating you or how they would feel if roles where reversed. They have been conditioned to watch you with suspicion.
Thanks society.

I have many spoons.
Anybody venturing into the world of self employment without some knowledge is heading for an expensive lesson. Sure not everybody is doomed, l dont believe l need to point that out, but some believe l speak in black & white.
In my opinion anybody starting up a business without any awareness of running a business is a muppet.
Sorry, but anybody that opens an appliance without any knowledge of an appliance is also a muppet.
NAC management would disagree with that l’m sure.
Time will tell l guess. All of aides projects have gone to the wall, l see this being no different, l just hope the damage is limited to the owner of NAC and not its clients.

as i see it the only calls that filter down via national call centers are
high end range cookers , built dishwashers are crap that no one want to touch ,appart from these savy customers most try their local guys .
I agree, local repair guys are starting to become popular again, most people are becoming aware that national companies are expensive and in most cases useless.
NAC and others are charging for a product customers would not want to pay extra for, they get no added incentive for and would argue it is a cost the repairer should absorb, so u earn less for a job that potentially would have used you anyway.
Undervaluing your product is one of the major factures in failed businesses.
Using an expensive form of advertising and earning less from it will, as any business school will tell you, make your business doomed to fail.
NAC believes most repairers are idiots at running a business, to date if they are that busy, they maybe right.
Personally l prefer to earn from 5 good calls a day that l have drawn in than 10 referred that will likely not last, the worst mistake to make is to structure and grow your business around a company with a weak history and poor business practice.
My profit and time will keep me a step ahead, whilst the jaime parries of this world will be gone in a puff of stress and poverty. Like the many muppets before.
