Re: Top or bottom, you decide.

Baumatics and most of the Haier products have a metal base, four small screws hold it in place on the older products, the newer ones are now plastic held in with clips and really the whole base is exposed allowing goods access to all components, I’ve seen several models branded Hotpoint/Indesit.

    As for Martin, your comment

“Techs with syringes and hoses looking up I couldn’t figure”

    .

Makes no sense as I wrote

during several yrs on the road doing work for BSH with 10 calls a day no option, plus they provide Techs with syringes to removed sump water before.

As a general guide which frankly should be obvious, if a cover has screws/clips holding it in place it is designed for access and easy removal, if you need to crow bar your way in, generally its not designed to be removed, brands count screws/clips etc during the planning and design costing stage, and since screws cost money there generally only used for removable parts including panels.

Re: Moral Dilemma…What would you do?

I would have charged for PCB stating the heater caused the PCB damage.

Friends and cash don’t mix, relatives even worse, I hate charging relatives out of pride, I assume they no the charge is normally at least £30 for a basic call out plus parts, but recently I was asked how much I wanted, I stated just the parts £15 and was give a £20 and told to keep the change!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I work for free cheeky c888.

    Biting tongue……

Did you bother to trace this pipe to a used Gas Supply ?

As your not qualified you are not leagally responsible for anything, having said that this is where the grey area starts for some, as you have knowledge this could be an issue puts some responsibility on you when you contacted the agents.

When a person is unqualified, you should act the same as everybody else, you did right in making people aware, but first I would have contacted the National Grid Enquiry line 0800 835 1111 not the Emergency line unless you smelled gas and follow there advice, the call is recorded and at least you can prove you did something. Landlords and agents are not always the most attentive and can lie.

Gas safe is all about passing on responsibility, problems such as this occurs because we do not have proper qualifications and regulation within our industry, people such as you mostly walk away, some react, but frankly its not good enough to have people scratching their heads or as in this discussion different answers to the solution and some wrong.

    Its a minefield.

Re: New UK Washing Machine Manufacturer ?

We have some of the worlds best Engineers, unfortunately our people who build the appliance prefer to be paid more than £2 a day.

Our workers are not as the Spanish say “Hungry” or as we prefer to say “Desperate” , but basically when other countries cost of living is so low they will be used, now China/Turkey is increasing its cost of living, there staff are becoming more demanding and in a few yrs we will see a similar slump to the UK’s in the 80’s.

Hopefully that is when the UK can grow and we can use both the brains and the brawn to build the UK PLC into a global player.

It would also help if Mr and Mrs Smith grew some pride and supported our home built products and stopped buying cheap crap. They may find they have less to complain about.

You can bash the brand for this till your blue in the face, simple fact is this really is a tiny issue, now lets discuss how many untrained, skill less and frankly dangerous so called professional engineers are out in the field…………

Re: Failure Rates & Product Quality

There are a lot of egos and cover ups going on.

A brand recently changed a PCB design for no reason other than development (Someone justifying there job) problem is the replacement failed horrendously and the 3 next attempts also failed, causing quite a few upset peeps. In the logical world the design should have reverted back to the original design that had no reliability issues.

And I’m currently at my desk trying to prove a conversation that happened with a Higher authority who now has no knowledge of the conversation or can explain his secretary actions who I had to speak to and get passed and put through to him, she remembers it up until recently, now she’s back pedaling.

Big businesses are full of idiots trying to cover there backs, The Peter Principle is very much alive in our industry, its based on the theory that people in authority reach a level in which they are a measure of there own incompetence, they reach a level where they cannot cope, they where brilliant at a lower level, but then reach beyond their capabilities, they cannot cope and place faith in there lower managers to make them look good.

One very good reason to become Self Employed.

Common sense went out the window when people started believing everything there told as opposed to logical thinking, then again judging by some of the things I see daily its the safe option.

Its a big world out there, sometimes only the easily manipulated are targeted, and Brits I’m afraid are easily manipulated, I believe its been re branded in many guises one is “Being professional” etc etc.

How many calls do people on here get from PAT companies referring appliances such as D/W etc etc in office kitchens with Earth Faults 😉

    I’ve never had any.

Re: Does anyone use this loop tester info required

Having worked in a few EU countries for a German Brand, they do not equip there Appliance engineers with Loop testers, mega’s etc etc.

The only time an Insulation tester arrived in the Service Dept was due to earth fault on a batch of induction hobs, it was returned to H/O a few weeks after arrival.

    Gotta luv EU regulations.

The test we carry out are still only good for the time there done and unlike a spark who is regulated there is no proof you actually did the test.

Its surprising how many engineers records I see where they still earth test and record readings for double insulated cooker hoods.

Like I stated before you wouldn’t want to go to your GP for a minor pain and end up in hospital for a week doing needless tests just in case.

The HSE did a survey between 1996/7-2002/3 of all fatal, major and over 3-day injury accidents occurring in all industries as
    reported via RIDDOR.

1,102,269 total accidents, only 1{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} involved Electricity and 6{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} electricity was involved. Our industry there was 3 incidents.

7 yrs that includes, ship building, heavy industry, construction etc etc etc. More people got hurt by there tool boxes and spanners than by an electric shock. :rotfl:

Not only will we soon need to wear a hard hat, high vis vest, rubber boots, gloves, plus a safety case in neon colours for our tools, we’ll need also the same for our laptops.

Mrs Smith will drop dead with laughter when she opens the door to us.

Maybe time to use the same bearings used in the aero industry.

“Yes madam washing machines are now £2,0000 ish minimum, due to the quality of the bearings used, it’ll never fail beyond 1 million hours of use”.

Customer walks away wishing appliances were as cheap as the back in 2010 stating your “talking the p8888, I’ll go somewhere else”
