As for the £15k guy.
At least as an employee he would be monitored and sacked, although when that happens he’ll become a self employed professional, let loose to rip off all he likes, safe in the knowledge nobody can touch him. :rolls:
There are plenty more in that position than as employed engineers. 😆

I know they have been tested but they are still second hand. I just hope they are not trying to pass them off as new or graded because i think that might be a bit dodgy to be honest.

We produce appliances and spares sold to the trade, so its perfectly legal for us to package parts removed from appliances within a certain age.

Depends on your business, its size and your motivation, it certainly does not cost us £180 to exchange an appliance, it may cost others that.
The picked up appliance is placed, at least in the brand I work for, into either the graded dept or the reclaim dept, parts are stripped off, tested and re packaged to be either sold to the trade or sent out to Engineers on warranty etc.
Most of our cooker hoods, m/waves are sent out to our engineers to install rather than repair. We also have our guys picking up appliances to be sent back to the depot.
At the moment the graded stuff is fly out.
As for Amica, the prices state all you need to no.

Your too honest, I’d have kept it.

Sold it and given it to charity, the wealthy sometimes need to be reminded how obscene there lives are in a world that has more poverty than wealth.
What would bring more satisfaction the smile of a rich toff or that of a starving child. 🙁

There are no high cost repairs.:rolls:
The average price of a motor or module to Comet is less than £20.
Most companies in the high street look to achieve 18{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} profit, in our industry it is much larger.
Who here charges over £100 to repair bearings on an appliance such as a Hotpoint and the parts come to sub £20 or who would replace carbons on a motor for less than £60 with parts costing £4, and yes I no you have to guarantee the motor and yes we all would tell the client that the carbons did not damage the motor if it did fail in guarantee. It is a lot, no.
Drums well there not something that you want repaired in a smart home, most are now sealed drums anyway with bearings now being produced to such a standard that less than 1{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} fail under normal load conditions.
Most budget brand appliances, Amica included who uniquely pay £50 a call to repair agents, on an appliance with a trade selling price from Swift costing around 3 call outs, there unlikely to pay for many calls, replacing the appliance is more cost effective, Comet are following that, their buying power ensures that, I’d be surprised if they paid more than £60 on any Washer they sell.
The ones that fail in guarantee, there always will be, get a new machine and the ones out of warranty are hardly likely to pay to have a drum replaced anyway.
For all Comets and other brands seemingly incomplete disregard for there clients, the industry or the planet they do manage to make money and that at the end of the day is what counts, in the world of big business.
As one CEO told me last Friday, 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of our clients happy, 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} are retarded, 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} are odd and the last 10{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} are professional complainers.
Homeserve policies are becoming more popular with clients paying by D/Debit over 12 months.
Its becoming more attractive again for brand/retailers to have a repair department and they all seem to be expanding or looking to include one rather than source out to JTM, Repaircare and 0800, the CEO I spoke to admitted he uses them to get rid of the crap that wouldn’t be profitable.

Haier will make any appliance for anybody, they have a price list and it is up to each individual how much quality they want placed into the product.

ParticipantRe: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?
When I first started in the industry the local shop I did my teeth cutting on would make me ring all the ads selling w/m, they found that the filters in most especially the Hotpoint 1800 and 95 series would have enough coins in the sumps to pay for the appliance and the rest was either recon’d or scrapped for parts.
They would also get bulk from scrap dealers, once we picked up 15 hotpoints for 50 quid and emptied almost 80 quid in coins, a gold braclet and a spark plug.

Date, it was in the last few months, quite a good earn, although lots of traveling.
So they did pass British Standards.
It would be interesting to find out what the tolerance of the drums are and how easy it would be for a client to exceed them, although to gain a CE code they would be inline with other cheap brands, I assume.
I did go to one cheap brand appliance today that had a motor and PCB change a month ago, due to the brand fitting plastic body motors with too dense carbons, which produce too much heat, causing a burning smell and triac failure on the PCB, today the drum was seized with movement forwards and backwards indicating possible bearing or drum support failure, until its returned to quality control for a strip down it as yet unknown, but I guess if too much load was placed and the drum failed on spin (its a 6kg load with a 1400 spin) it could well have exploded in the way Indesits have.

So why was a certain brand recently doing High Pressure testing on a shipment of gas ovens when it was noticed they had not been tested to British Standards pre-production.
http://www.bsigroup.com/en/ProductServi … n-Testing/
Today, BSI provides the leading certification for domestic and commercial gas appliances in the UK and it is one of the top three in Europe as well as having some of the most experienced and knowledgeable staff in the world.

Have the UK failures been tested to British Standards ?
Wouldn’t be the first time an appliance was sold in the UK without the tests being done.
I have to say the presenter was pretty hot, we could do with her on Watchdog. 😀

ParticipantRe: Qualtex South West Closing
Its annoying, sad and frustrating.
Soon there will be very limited supply options, leaving large suppliers left who run their own service companies and forcing those who don’t to follow.
And more annoying we’re handing them the kleenex and giving them a cuddle afterwards.
Having local supply outlets gave us the small business the upper hand, allowing us to operate far better and cheaper than the own brand engineers.
10 yrs ago there where 4 outlets within my service area, now there are none.
Now I have to deal with people that are either incompetent or more likely instructed to be awkward, example taking 2 payments for the same invoice and when informed seem to be unable to understand simple instructions and maths, happens a lot and always mistake seem to favor there finances more than mine.
