ParticipantRe: Yellow Pages
Had the rep from the yellows out a couple of weeks ago, she seemed ok, was pleased she didnt try to push for a bigger ad as they often do.
However, Her FIRST words when she sat down were “The good news is theres NO increase in prices over last year”, on friday i get the DD schedule in through the post with a 4{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} increase 👿Try calling the mobile number on her business card but it’s constantly on voicemail, eventually leave a message asking her (politely) to please call me back & explain why she lied to me.. no response.
Called yellows HQ today & they were no real help, couldnt comment on a conversation they didnt hear was their line, but they said they would email the rep.. i wont hold my breath :rolls:Im gonna be more vigilant next year, my own fault for not looking more closely at what i was actually signing, i just think a 4{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} increase in these low inflation times is totally taking the p*ss.
Anyone else experienced a similar increase? ❓Madmac

Not sure what the job you failed to get paid for was funbobby, but if it involved parts, you should have removed them & left.
Its really annoying to supply your labour for nothing but even worse if the robbing bast*rds have some of yer bits as well 🙁Madmac
ParticipantRe: Knee Pads
I think i spend just as much time on my back as on my knees! but that’s another story 😳 Take yesterday, Zan carbons, machine tilted, i’m on my back.. well, on my side really. Late Indesit & Hotpoint machines with pump assemblies full of coins.. lying down again, two of them yesterday.
And why are the lying down jobs often spent trying to fend off an amorous doggie with a slimy tongue? 😯So i think most crap from grotty kitchen floors ends up on my back & sides, but unless you’re a magician like that a*se crack engineer off the ING advert who pulls a shaded pole pump from the top of a machine 😯 then i dunno how to avoid a mucky bum either 😥

No need to try to kill innocent Engineers though 😯 Shocking experience garn, if that pit really was 20 feet deep you could easily have came to a horrible end, drowned in liquid sh*t. Not nice.
I think your local health & safety geezer would be very interested in such a dangerous & lazy set up. 🙁

ParticipantRe: How would you design a washing machine?
I think really what we all want when it comes to washers is a return to how it was 30 years ago 😯
Aint gonna happen though is it? 🙁 3 to 5 year replacement cycles are what the manufacturers & large retailers want so thats what we have :rolls:If i was elected minister in charge of washing machine design though i would have the following..
1. Mechanical timer with replaceable drive motor.
2.Steel inner & outer drums.
3.Cast bearing carrier removable from back.
4.Motor with easily replacable armature & brushes (available without holders) at reasonable cost.
5.Motor control module with fuse on armature circuit.
6.Sell it for at least £400 so the customer’s first thought when it breaks just MIGHT be “Who can i get to fix this?” not, “Lets go online & order a new one”
Yep, i do basically just want to turn the clock back 30 years 😳Madmac

ParticipantRe: Espares
What’s the point of them pretending the job is a piece of p*ss ❓ Well, the desire to make money of course, but disgruntled punters can quite simply ask for a refund under the distance selling regs 😕

ParticipantRe: Just lost the job
Wouldn’t be without it now but it is very annoying to walk into a house where the customer has his/her laptop set up on the kitchen table spouting off the prices for various parts :rolls:
Its been a devastating invention for anyone with a shop retailing spares though, there’s no one left in my area with such a business now 🙁
But then its been the same for many of our high street shops, especially small independent ones.Cant help but notice just how many parcel vans are on the road these days, tailgating you wherever you go :rolls: internet deliveries no doubt.
So yeah, the internet is here to stay & has many advantages but the decrease of local shops & the increase of white van man isnt so good IMO…..(speaking as a white van man! 🙂 )Madmac

ParticipantRe: Bad Payers
Really the only way to avoid this hassle is simply to make sure you get paid on completion of the job..aint asking too much is it? :rolls:
It isnt in theory of course, but we all get the chancers dont we, REALLY winds me up, would they breeze through the checkouts in Tesco promising to send a cheque for their groceries in a week or two? 👿I have quite a few long term customers i CAN trust to send payment if they’re not gonna be there, they in turn trust me with a key to their home, that sort of arrangement is ok IMO.. mutual trust.
If a new customer tries it on i have no problem simply removing any part i’ve fitted, suprising how often the cash miraculously appears when you start to disassemble 🙂
If its a callout only job to a blocked pump or whatever, then its not so easy, what can you do, stuff the coins & bra wire back into the pump?? :rolls:
I think we have to accept we’re always going to have a few jobs that end as total losses over the course of a year though, thats just the reality of dealing with the general public 🙁 -
