K.So why aren’t the gits DROPPING their rates 😯 seems we’re paying more to get less.
For the £70 a month i’ll be paying this year i really dont think i’m getting value for money, i used to think that even one job a week from YP would mean i break even at least, so was worth carrying on with, but i swear many weeks all my customers are previously visited ones or referrals.Next year i think i’ll drop my ad’s to the bare minimum size & look at setting up a decent web page, i’m sick of giving yell my hard earned.
I used to get a far better class of punter from my ad in the county rag when i think of it 😯 typically older country types with freshly baked scones & a pot of tea waiting 8)
Plus, id far rather give my available ad budget to a local paper than the BMW driving lying b******s who work for yell.. yes sir. 👿Madmac

My last comment was slightly tongue in cheek Ken, 😉 £3 on the price of a Beko at Argos (spit) isnt going to guarantee us a future in this industry, no 🙁
I just get SO fed up trying to convince people to spend money repairing things they see as increasingly disposable year by year that ANY tiny possibility of a change in the public’s perception of white goods sparks a little hope 😯I know its not ALL about price, but it is a huge part of it, like it or not, people, on average, consider this first when faced with a repair or replace decision, thats my experience anyway.
It is true though that scores of retailers cutting each others throats combined with manufacturers in developing countries managing to produce a washer for the price of a round of drinks is the biggest cloud hanging over us 🙁But, its legal, it’s going to continue, and you’ve got to hand it to all those concerned in dragging our industry to this level, its been a supreme con trick, convincing the general public its cheaper spending £200 every 3 years than £400 every 10+ years.. Brilliant! 😀

Yep, thats what i do indeed do 😉 a few extra pennies on a set of brushes or a pump or whatever will be a small price to pay if the phone starts to ring like it did in the good old days (you never know 😯 )

Aww.. dont stop! 😀
I think an across the board increase on appliance prices might do more good than harm to the repair game.. everything else will go up as well of course but on balance it might make people more inclined to get things fixed ❓ Just a thought.

Its a thorny old issue to be sure, i’m the first to slag off the DIY merchants who DARE to try to do our job, & sometimes the less competent ones genuinely do end up costing themselves more in the long run.
Recent ones i’ve been called to included a guy who turned his Zanussi upside down to get the pump off & got water all over the PCB making it BER.
Or the single mum who tried to fit a new oven element she’d got off the internet without turning the power off 😯 contacts blown off the multi switch & a 2 trip job for me (she hadnt told me she’d been near it :rolls: )However, if i wasnt in this trade i’d probably be doing exactly the same ill informed DIY fiddling myself 😳 what can i say, im i tinkerer.. cars, plumbing, joinery, i’ll give anything a bash.
One difference though.. i think i DO recognise my limits.. 😉Madmac

Customer care was not brilliant in my experience it must be said 🙁 A shame ‘cos a little competition in this field would benefit us all i would think 😉

Very confusing for your customers, & many might suspect they’re being routed through a premium rate set up or something 😯

Hmmm.. considering what they’ve done to the Zanussi brand i’m not sure quality is too high on their agenda :rolls:
But, we’ll see, if the Chinese can manage to fit interlocks that dont cause dead shorts, reliable PCB’s,(unlikely) and drums we can open if needed then maybe it’ll be an ok machine.
One things for sure, we’re gonna have to get used to working on stuff built in China. 😯February 19, 2010 at 11:41 am in reply to: Diplomat (Whirlpool) ADP8322 integrated dishwasher #311179Madmac

Got a similar sounding prob on a Whirl ADG 957 jontymox, probably get a look at over weekend, its reportedly skipping to rinse & aborting prog 😯
I’ll post here if i make any sense of it, looks like i should avoid buying a PCB 😯
Did you check the basics jontymox? Heater, NTC, TOC, valves etc?Regarding testing of soap dispenser, really all you can do is check continuity through coil & if the thing is mechanically ok by operating with your finger.

gandh, you might just be experiencing discomfort after the natural oils have been stripped from your skin, laundry detergents are pretty effective de-greasers i’ve found.
I keep hand cream in the glove box & use it a lot it must be said, if i get detergent on my hands the skin feels as tight as a ducks chuff for the rest of the day, no matter how much i rinse it 🙁So invest in some hand cream…. because you’re wurf it 😉

ParticipantRe: Yellow Pages
Looked at the pricing section of their website & what i’ve been charged is the advertised going rate for this year.. a 4{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} increase in the basic price ex VAT 😥 Still doesnt change the fact that my bloody rep lied & refuses to even answer calls, unfortunately its my word against hers, there was no one else here 👿
Alex, the guy i spoke to actually suggested i could cancel my ads if i was not happy.. kinda threw me cos i was planning using that threat as my trump card! 😳
Just get the feeling its all mind games with that lot, they have no doubt all been trained to have an answer for every occasion. As its the only advertising i do now having stopped a wee local paper ad i used to run to save on costs, im reluctant to chance a year without it, even though im dubious as to just how much work it actually generates.
The year i give this game up i’m gonna invite them out, agree to spend thousands on a few double page ads..then use my right to cancel on the 11th hour..HAH! That’ll fix ’em. 🙂
