Easy enough to pinch one of the option buttons & solder it on Mario. Or if you have a scrap board you can get one off that. Very common fault, repaired quite a few 😉

Big hammer, good long drift with a decent edge on it, & ear protection. Heat from blowtorch & releasing fluid for really stuck ones.
Have not failed with this technique yet 😉
The noise from doing it this way also has the effect of clearing all but the most determined punters from the kitchen.. leaving you in peace

Re: Comet Service & Customer Aftercare

Lets face it, the service you can expect from the sheds, be it Kesa, DSG or whoever, is highly unlikely to match the small independent high street business they are responsible for destroying.
But people have voted with their cash & generally prefer to spend less of it even if it means poor aftercare, such is human nature.
Having said that, i bought a Panasonic Plasma last year from Comet which unfortunately went wrong after just under a month, couldnt really fault them in their response, engineer turned up within 15 mins of estimated time (better than i usually manage 😉 ) agreed with me that a refund or exchange was in order & thats what i got (refund)
As for DSG, i find the staff in Inverness PC world pushy annoying twa*s, yet 200yds away in Currys they are generally very helpful & have exchanged stuff i’ve taken back without even looking in the box to check my story.
we’re all human beings at the end of the day…peace man 8)

Yip, i’m with you there Steve 😉 Just thought it might be a component a determined tite wad like me could replace with a hammer & chisel. Trying to go easy on the poor old punters pension 8)

Oh well, off to EMW then 🙂

    Re: LG condens dryer belt.

Did this one today, nothing to be afraid of if anyone else gets a call for one.. completed in half hour to be honest.
Left hand thread on the motor shaft & loads of screws to take out of the back were the only points worth noting.
Original belt was 1885 H8 but i just used a 1990, plenty tight enough. Nicer to work on than Indesit group crap.. but what isnt :rolls:

Now I have spotted in this thread what could have been the perfect ‘trade to trade’ opportunity for Squadman to contact Helo_75 and ask if he knows who his friend may contact within the Comet organisation? A person there who may look into the matter just to see if anything further can be done to resolve the situation more quickly?

What would be the entertainment value in that though ❓

Well, finally trekked the 30 miles to look at this machine. Whatever the initial fault my customer thought she had, i was confronted with a machine which would drain for a long time & then abort 😯
Turns out it was the usual fat clogged pressure sw assembly in the base, prob solved & one happy punter.

Aye, me too boselecta, and the irony isn’t lost on me either, expect this site to run for nuffin i do 😀
Look, if i was as busy as i was in the past i MIGHT be tempted to type a few lines for a reasonably intelligent sounding individual on the public forum, but really only if it involved a pretty non technical job..sorry but 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the general public really, really are not safe working on an object containing 240v & water, so how would i know if i was dealing with the 5{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} who might be ❓

But im not as busy as i was in the past, in the past i wouldn’t be sitting in the house on a Friday morning typing this rubbish waiting for the phone to ring 😯 i’m just a skint, bad tempered middle aged man longing for the good old days to return.. you really wouldn’t want me on the public forums
Anyway, i think i support the site in other ways, i always order from shop@ if i’m after a single item & have done since i joined..so there 8) 😆

Re: E-Spares Illegal, Dangerous and Outrageous Claims

Yep, i thought i’d tempt you to the keyboard with that last line Ken 😉 You’re right though, i am being slightly hypocritical in the stance i’m taking.. what can i say.. its my livelihood! 😯
Plus, TBH, i simply wouldn’t be comfortable giving advice to someone i had no clue about with regards to their ability to work on an appliance operating at 240v :zap:
Regarding my my tinkering, I make around half the money on an average week as i did 15 years ago.. no wonder i need to do DIY!! 😀
Cant blame the internet for it all,no, but i think all us indies feel we’re being squeezed from every direction at once with falling income yet steadily rising costs year in year out. very, very stressful.

But, we are where we are, i noticed the Highland council’s advertising for a foreman to oversee/train ‘socially problematic’ young persons ( just oot o’ jail in other words 😉 )in their appliance recycling HQ in Inverness paying 25k year plus Bonus.. maybe i’ll go for that.. thats the real growth area in white goods, lets face it. 😉

Re: E-Spares Illegal, Dangerous and Outrageous Claims

I think the job i attended yesterday sums up the average diagnostic skill level of the public at large..
Hotpoint WM52, tripping RCD a little while into wash.. what would be your first thoughts? Gotta be heater surely.. maybe motor related but heater most likely.
Sure enough, heavy earth leak on heater, fixed in 20 mins, £55 & customer beaming with joy.

She’s a single parent on a fixed income so her father, neighbour & a ‘friend’ all had a pop at tracing the trouble before i was called in :rolls:
Anyway, long story short (which she went into in great detail all the while i was there :rolls: ) several items were bought for this machine including a pump :hmm: brushes & door seal ( the old one did at least have a small hole)
She had paid a similar amount for these parts as i charged her to actually fix the thing, kinda felt sorry for her but lesson learned i think 😉

So yeah, anyone CAN buy parts, but years of experience & the ability to use a multimeter/megger quite often makes all the difference 🙂
Thats our edge.. thats why i never get involved in the public forums.

    Re: Yellow Pages

Quite correct Martin, in fact i destinctly remember a rep telling me that & i guess we all got used to many years of flat pricing from them(funny how it still felt expensive though 😕 )
Now the brakes are well & truly off & they’re sure making hay while the sun shines :rolls: do excuse the mixed metaphors 😉

Well i would HOPE M&M would be keeping an eye on their naughty child & ensuring no price rises are above inflation… ❓ Oh no, they’re clearly not, ‘cos this year its risen by 4 bloody percent! Have they not heard there’s a recession still in full flow(unless you believe the 0.3{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} growth figures :rolls: )
