The ongoing forensic examinations of many of the recorded deaths (including Doug McTavish in February 2015) that are suspected as being caused by tumble dryers has still to be conclusively proven. The question is, if the tumble dryer was proven beyond reasonable doubt to be the source of the fire who, other than the user, could possibly be held responsible?

Just 1 second the aquastop valve is energised would make me conclude the safety float has something to do with this fault. 1 second is barely enough to trouble or be associated with the flow meter/reed switch. Or indeed the aquastop itself is at fault?

Just as well then you didn’t search ‘Hotpoint vibrates’ as that too would ignore Hotpoint and you’d get over 4m invites to porno sites and sex toys.

    But I digress 😉

Most Hotpoint’s would at least give some form of error code, after the clicking stops, so you’d have more to go on than that. A relay that clicks most likely still works OK.

Did you reset the programme after fitting the impeller jug?

That depends on which way you look at it. Many will benefit from Whirlpool taking on the Indesit group. First of the losers could well be the Whirlpool Corporation.

    Re: Drum bearing failure Bosch/Zanussi

If you’re selling machines as well as fixing then Beko.

If you’re only fixing, DON’T recommend any make as it’ll only harm your reputation if the bearings fall to bits a short while later.

It is safe to assume that as the weeks and months go by all makes (bar Miele) will have sealed tubs. The only recommendation therefore as to which make to buy then the one with the longest all inclusive warranty seems a sensible approach.

In the showrooms these days many Bosch and Siemens have a large sticker on the side proclaiming a 10 year guarantee*, and the small print is a little harder to read. The tub will fail long before the motor does.

Re: Whirlpool to do a recall on Hotpoint dryers

Interesting points raised in ITV’s This Morning programme:

    1) House insurance policies will exclude claims proved to be a fault of a tumble dryer that is subject to this recall.

    2) If machine is under 3 years old ‘apparently’ the retailer may be liable to a full refund of products sold that has subsequently been subject to this recall in spite of that recall only being applied months/years after the sale.

    3) Whirlpool CEO states categorically that their products that are subject to the recall are still completely safe to use.

Water level far too high so a gunged up air bell for sure. Also the Megohm reading not brilliant and likely to cause spurious errors.

    Re: Zanussi filter

Your model does not have a user accessible filter. Though there is a ‘filter trap’ that is only accessible once the pump motor is removed. So a bit of technical surgery required in order to go to those lengths.
