Actually they have only just changed the Policyholders Terms & Conditions slightly by this. They currently provide a 2 year “Safety & Maintenance Inspection” for all those policyholders who have had a policy for 2 years and over. It is my understanding they are to change that to an annual inspection instead but only once a policy is over 2 years old. 🙁

Therefore the benefit the policyholders get is that after they have paid for 2 years uninterrupted cover (That’s a minimum policy of £15 per month X 24 months = £360) They will get a BG chap to come along and just look at each appliance, perhaps stick a megger on the plugtop and peer into the cupboard to see if it is connected to whatever, ask if it works? Write out a Inspection Report, leave the policyholder a copy and clear off!

If you keep up your premiums he may return next year!! 😆

Just apply that same procedure to remove the drum complete once the whole back panel is swung out of the way 😉

    No don’t do that!

A 7 rib belt is perfectly OK to use and in fact will be a little more durable 😉 .

What I suspect is your problem, is that the front drum bearers are clogged with fluff making the drum stiff to turn. Also the rear phosphor bronze bearing may be worn or need greasing? So if when the belt is disconnected, the drum takes more than one finger strength to turn, then the drum needs removing to sort 🙂

CAR72 Motor Brushes are most likely the ones that will fit this model? Available via emailing details of motor type to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk

Del wrote:But I feel that we should now be thinking of restricting certain services from those that do not wish to be subscribers

In many ways I see your point Sean and in an ideal world that surely would have to be seriously considered. But I believe the ideals cannot be implimented by virtue of the fact that I am all too aware of what I consider has been a poor response (take-up) to the recent Mail-shot!

Now I guess Ken will start jumping about trying to prove my statement to be false and unfounded. But whilst the trade membership level has gone up somewhat as a result of the mail-shot, the response has been a dissappointment.

I have mentioned in the past that very few contribute except to the jokes in the Off- topic Forum, but again Ken was quick to point out that the likes of me and Chris give little chance to anyone contributing as we very often reply to Postee’s before anyone else has chance. So, just to see if that theory had any truth attached, I this week have not replied to any posts (except a couple of times maybe?) just to see who else may pop up to answer the blindingly easy questions the public asks all the time. During that time no trade members stepped into the breach to my knowledge to answer these posts in spite of an average of 20 were on-line at any one time? OK a very inconclusive survey I agree, but nevertheless it convinced me somewhat of the complacency that is the trade membership in general!

Now ask them to stump up some money? (And I liked Del’s reference to 5 cigarettes by the way) I have never seen the many smokers at the UKW meetings actually offering a cigarette to a fellow sufferer, so why anyone would spare 5 fags a week on UKW beats me!

Now if we could only come up with some tangible evidence that subscriptions will actually gain something over and above what is already FREE then we are getting somewhere. I so wish we could stipulate that in the case of all those that benefit from Repairs@ and Directory listings should be for SUBSCRIBERS ONLY as that would be a positive step forward. Offering that for free is really not on as that has to be a winner I reckon.

Anything else like discounts on Insurance, vans, tools etc etc would follow I’m sure, but that takes a great deal of time and effort and with the small amount of subscribers at the moment it really doesn’t cut much ice to warrant action.

Not sure Chris to be honest but looking at the parts illustration, there seems to be a link rod also from the Timer to the I/O switch?, if that is so, that may be a reason??

It appears that contrary to popular belief over the issue of “who spends most, gets the better trading discount” …that it is very much NOT the case after all.

Rather I suspect then that once they have got you by the proverbials, they squeeze them even more to see if you scream! And as far as they are concerned if they get no reaction from you, then they will continue their grip. Or to put it another way, a large share in your continued success is their ultimate triumph. What a brilliant marketing coup!!

I would be gutted to realise for someone that is spending that amount of money with them each month, has to pay the same price as someone who purchases a fraction of that in the same period?

Surely with all the recent mouning and groaning over demands for increase workrates from WP’s from those that need the best rates to support the biggest workforce, should be the first to start shouting “RIP OFF!”

Do the Connect Reps drive big cars I wonder? I bet they do, but I wouldn’t know as I’ve never seen one? as I just get someone from their company phone me every week asking if everything is alright? (in spite of the fact I haven’t ordered spares from them this last 12 months!!!

Time to organise some strategy to redress the balance towards the ones that does the grafting in this business 👿

Sorry chaps been a bit busy don’t you know and am trying to catch up? Being an old git it takes a while to read all the stuff I’ve missed (what with my failing eyesight and stuff)….so!…seems someone has posted a ‘Sticky’ but I’m not sure to who you refer?

Is it the guy that Dave posted in reply to his asking how to access a pump?

    Re: Where do we stand.

Extract from DTI leaflet (Pub3621/1998) the Trading Standards Institute uses as its benchmark:

“Unsatisfactory goods : your rights as a consumer”

Whether they are new or secondhand goods you buy from a shop they must be of satisfactory quality.

The test of quality is what a reasonable person would find satisfactory, taking into account the price, how the goods were described and other relevant factors such as their age. Making allowances for these factors, the goods should be:

    * Fit for all the purposes for which goods of that kind are commonly supplied.

    * Fit for your specific purpose – if the seller knows what the purpose is (unless it is unreasonable to rely on his opinion).

    * Satisfactory in appearance and finish.

    * Safe and durable.

    * As described, for example, by the seller or on packaging and labels.

If you notice a defect (or you should have noticed it because it was obvious), or it is pointed out to you by the seller and you decide to buy anyway, you cannot say it makes the goods unsatisfactory.

“What can you do if the goods do not meet these tests?” :-

Remember your legal rights are against the seller. Don’t be put off by his arguments that it’s the manufacturers fault!

If the goods do not meet these tests when you first examine them or try them out, you can reject them and get your money back.

    * You need not accept a replacement, free repair OR credit note

    * If you agree to a repair it will not stop you claiming your money back if the repair turns out to be unsatisfactory.

    * You do not lose the right to reject by signing a note of acknowledging delivery.

If you have had reasonable time to examine the goods or have used them for more than a trial and they go wrong or do not meet these tests, you cannot reject them, but you can claim compensation (damages). You can claim the loss in value of the goods and for any harm caused by their use (or not being able to use them). In practice, reasonable compensation will often be a repair, replacement or price reduction.

If the defect was present at the time of sale and if it was reasonable for the goods to last that long, you can claim compensation for up to six years after the purchase.

If you bought the goods on credit or with a credit card you may also have rights against the credit company.

    Gentlemen,

I am delighted in the response (so far) at your reaction to my post 😀

I will attempt to answer your comments and concerns so far:-

kwatt wrote:Next question, do we pay for it out our pockets (shouldn’t cost much really) or do we use the funds?

If it’s free of charge to all that wish to have van stickers, the majority of UKW members (subscribers or all) will request they have a few. If however there is a price to pay, then many more will decline or consider such an offer. If the cost of this facility is burdened upon the subscribers alone, I believe many will be non too happy at the expense however small it may be.

kwatt wrote:The point Martin is to raise public awareness.

Agreed…. to maintain any business you have to maintain as high a profile as possible, but I really fail to see how van stickers will do that at this stage 🙂

Del wrote:And still we question wether that little lot is worth a van sticker to help promote it further

I am answering your complete post here Sean by first reminding you that I am on your side here mate in spite of your misgivings lately over my recent posts…… 😉

“Our little community has raised the bar so much so that we now attract
manufacturers, insurers, work providers, spares suppliers etc. offering help and support on things like training and sharing information.”

Preaching to the converted here a bit, not selling to the public though.

    Promoting UKW at every opportunity?”…..

of course, I like many have contributed to the cause as well you know. 8)

“Have we really become complacent, that our efforts are not even worth a van sticker?”

………of course not! But I suspect it will have little or no impact (to the general public) at this stage any more than someone that has a certain Trade Association sticker on their van right now 🙁

If we are wracking our brains as to what to spend our subscription funds on? Let me suggest we concentrate on discounted Public Liabilty Insurances Premiums, Vehicle Insurance Premiums, Employees insurance and many other facilities that would be of greater overall benefit.

kwatt wrote:Oh and there was no need to eat up our bandwidth reposting the sample logo BTW
