rosie,
Actually what you have is a W143S (I think from memory the S stands for Silver?)and what you may have to do is call out a local engineer to look at it. It certainly is NOT the timer as that is only in fact a Selector Switch. The main programme control is via the Electronic Module at the back.
Check out our “Database” and type in you Postcode to find a local UK Whitegoods engineer to check it out for you.

Ah! Now this is where we in the Whitegoods trade benefit, you see most of us in the trade have a shop customers can come into simply to escape the perils of ‘shopping rage’. All are greeted with open arms and a smile and if they buy enough, perhaps even a cup of tea and a chat as well!

machineman,
Also take the sumphose off the manifold just to check there’s nothing stuck in there? I have had 2 similar probs with same model kind of giving those symptoms. The first was a phonecard stuck in the pipe acting like a flap valve and the other job was a rubber adidas badge off someones trainers stuck in there!
Does the Timer start skipping along for no reason sometimes I wonder as well?
Start with the simple then start scratching your head and saying “Oh dear missis you got a problem there right enough, who one earth sold you this load of garbage?”

Now that reminds me…..
..one of the sliding locking bolts on my extending Dining Room Table has fallen off 😯 I wonder if Chubby Dave knows where I can get some glue to stick it back on ❓ 😉

…..and another thing!
The plastic rivet holes never line up when you try to put the evaporator housing back in!

ParticipantRe: Hoover Washing Machine decision
peoplespal,
Both model numbers you quote are last years stock. Hoover/Candy have a new range of machines out now. The current equivalents being the HNL31662 (1600/6kgAAA) and the HNF3157 (1500/7.5kgAAA) although with the 7.5kg washload range there is also a HNF3167 (1600/7.5kgAAA). Several new models are available under the “Nextra” Badge.
The Candy equivalent is in the “Nova” Range.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint T-dryer,TDL30 Belt Replacement
Oh Boy ❗ you have got a right tricky one there! Dave is quite correct in that you tackle it from the front BUT this baby does not have a belt tensioner pulley. Now it is tricky changing belts at the best of times, but on those that don’t have a tensioner (i.e. Direct drive, belt round drum straight onto motor pulley) very very tricky.
My advice for what its worth, and to save cutting your hands and arms to shreads on the panels, is to take the entire back off! Swing it clear of the drum and get to it that way. Much more screws and clips to undo but it will prevent injury and swearing 😉

That’s a good point, I’m sure the guy said they did shop window and van stickers, I had better give ’em a bell on that 💡
streetlighter wrote:hope I wont have to wait to long for my check up.
The ‘CRB Check’ which I think is to what you refer, takes a good 6 weeks, possibly 8? Its done by Disclosure Scotland and those guys north of Hadrians Wall work at a much slower pace 😉 I think it’s ‘cos they drink too much ‘Irn Bru’ or something 😉 but any road up it’s worth the wait. Good Luck !!

How strange that they should be like that? Especially insisting on the phoning and the 3 day call thing, that is odd but nonetheless what we do in the trade anyway.
The good news from me at least is that I have had confirmation from Hampshire Trading Standards. That I am now officially added as one of their approved tradesmen and able to display their logo on my advertising and website (the latter already sorted)
Hampshire T S are much easier to contact and get replies to. It costs £100 a year to be listed to cover their admin costs. They insist each member hand out their “Customer Leaflet” at random which contains a pre-paid feedback ‘praise/complaint’ form my customers can fill in and return. (Not sure yet how many they expect me to hand out though?)

Of course that is what I do, my problem comes when I get back to the office and I have half a dozen messages left on my answering machine from people with mobile telephone numbers. Who turn out to be spread all over the UK looking for a Smeg agent.
I am going to change my answerphone message to “..please leave a message after the tone but if you want your Smeg fixed, and you live in Bridlington, Cheadle Hulme, Sevenoaks, Knotty Ash, Wombwell or Aberdeen then please go to http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk and try your luck there, oh! and have a nice day!”

It is because of these renegade supplimentary websites that tack on to site like mine and pass on loads of c**p (cyber middlemen)!!!!What are you on about Martin? I don’t understand that at all. 😕
I’m sorry, but I am not sure how to describe these guys sites other than ‘cyber middlemen’! But for example sites like ‘www.upmystreet.com’ have somehow got me associated with Smeg and/or the like.
It would be nice and professional of me I know to be able to have a database of telephone numbers to hand every time I get someone from the web, with which I could say…”I am so very sorry but I do not repair SMEG/DIPLOMAT/TECKNIK/HYGENA or whatever rubbish, but I do have the number of their local agent, simply re-dial them 01 blah blah blah……..! But sadly I don’t have such information, nor it seems do those that smirf the Wee Willy Winky! 😉
