It’s a classic case of gaining wisdom from experience. In your case Mike it would have been better had you called in Merloni in the first place. They at least would have used the famous Merloni ‘poke it and hope’ method of trying to fix it, BUT at their expense and not yours!

Ah Well ! I guess you’ve already decided the fate of your machine?

    My advice…..by a new BOSCH.

    Wow!

Where do I start? My experience within the trade goes way back, so I have dealt with many machines that will easily fit into this category.

Here is just a selection over the years:-

    1). Hoover Keymatic 3208
    2). Hotpoint 1400
    3). Hotpoint 1600
    4). Colston Commodore
    5). Nyborg (C Series)
6). Asea Electronic Integrated D/W (Circa 1994- forgot Model No?)
7). Bosch SPA series Slimline D/w’s
8 ). Whirlpool Top Loaders (All models are crap to get at!)
9). Zanussi Jetsystem Washer Dryers (every single model!)
    10) Finally, All makes of built-in D/w’s who’s manufacturer insist on fitting those long thin adjustable feet in all four corners of the machine that rust up solid and bend when you try to move the darn things. Whoever came up with that idea needs to go back to his Lego set in Kindergarten!

I applaud your safety tests and checking Streetlighter, long may you continue and welcome to a like minded ‘Band of Brothers’ (Oh! and Sisters..possibly? being politically correct for a moment).

    Della,

One cannot simply replace the door I’m afraid, but whatever part is damaged?

I suspect in this case the ‘Outer Door Panel’ ?? Please elaborate giving us the Product (PNC) number as just the model number may not suffice. And it would of course be from here in the UK. Otherwise contact Zanussi direct in France similarly?

If the brushes are clean and their surface shiney, and the commutator segments clean and uniform looking, then the motor should be OK? A 500volt megger test preferable to check its insulation though.

It could be??? the Mains Filter/Suppressor???? I guess you realise the fault when it is drawing most power, so its worth a look at?

    Thanks for your reply Judy,

I am glad a solicitor is on the case and I am sure that things are headed in the right direction. It appears to me to be a clear cut case for a Court of Law to make judgement by now and apportion blame so that you can put forward your claim and get your life back together!

If however your solicitor is pursuing a private claim for damages, that could drag on and on by being just a paper shuffling exercise between COSTCO and WHIRLPOOL!

    Sally,

You can get into real trouble with this model accessing between the inner and outer drum as they are one complete pressing and cannot be dismantled.

An engineer will be better qualifed in trying to remove whatever it may be but be warned there is no guarantee because of its inherently bad design!

Bra Wires are the most common type of things stuck between drums, most are easy to remove but on this Indesit….???****!!!!NO CHANCE

Re: Earth Loop Testing after repair

The HSE Guide refers only to ‘Electrical Installations’ however DASA included this as part of their ‘Quality Criteria’ Electrical Safety Tests (Section 3.1.7) which all members are expected to adhere on every repair!

It will only come into play when they change the rules on ‘PAT Testing’ to include repairs to and in private dwellings and to all Whitegoods…..Long way off yet I reckon?

Meanwhile keep Loop Testing and show on your Invoice/Work Docket the test results as usual…..!

Re: HELP! TUMBLE DRYER ON FIRE! HELP! TUMBLE DRYER ON FIR

    Judy,

Please do not forget that the supplying dealer (which I believe is Costco in this case?) bears the ultimate responsibility for the damaged/faulty goods. It was they that sold you the goods in question and they that should recompense you for the damage. Your ‘contract’ is with them and not necessarily with Whirlpool!

I realise your dreadful predicament and sense the obvious frustration within your recent postings. Forgive the seemingly impertinence of my final question(it is not meant that way I can assure you). Could you not seek ‘Legal Aid’ and sue the supplying dealer? When a law suit is slapped on someones desk they sure do jump into life pretty quickly and deal with the matter.
