    Re: Neff oven selector switch

Thanks for the reply Greg. I managed to trace out the wires and work out the switching on Saturday but it would have been a lot easier with the diagrams ❗ Anyway, I left the customer happy with a working oven only to get a call this morning (Monday) saying it wasn`t heating 😕 Turned out the element had gone open circuit :rolls: Anyway, left the customer happy again and thats me done until the new year 😀 Thanks once again and have a good one yourself.

    Cheers

    Re: Customers Attitudes

It`s given me heart reading this topic. As a sole trader you tend to think your the only one having customer problems. It`s so reassuring to know that others are suffering at the hands of the general public ❗ Mind you I still think there are more obnoxious arrogant a$$holes per square mile in my area than anywhere else. Perhaps I should move nearer to maltheviking if the majority of his customers are a pleasure to work for, especially if his avatar is any thing to go by 😛

If the water level is low it will probably be due to a blockage in the sump hose or pressure system. This is a common problem and it doesn`t always throw up a fault code.

I had a problem on one of these where I couldn`t select a programme or reset and it turned out to be a faulty door microswitch.

Thanks Jim, I thought as much. These stretch belts are a pain in the ar$$. Oh how I long for the good old days when you could just tension the belt, play a tune on it and leave the customer happy. Ahh :rolls:

To avoid electrocution I always wrap a few turns of insulation tape around the plug pins when I remove it so it can`t easily be pluged back in. If it`s hard wired I remove the fuse and tape an X across the faceplate. If I have to isolate at the fuse box I either remove the fuse and place it in my pocket or tape the circuit breaker in the off position and then tape the lid shut. Which ever method I have used, I always check with a neon screwdriver to make sure. I don`t like using voltsticks as they can react to static.

In reply to the last post, apparantly The Adaptive Server Anywhere Database Engine is trying to act as a server, whatever that means. I always deny it access and it never seems to prevent SIOS from working.

Going back to the topic, I stoped using Norton because it eats up system resources and let a couple of viruses through. I now use the following: AVG antivirus, Zonealarm firewall, Ad-aware SE personal for spyware removal and CCleaner which is a PC optimization tool. It combines a system cleaner that removes unused and temporary files from your system and also a fully featured registry cleaner. This means that Windows runs faster, more efficiently, and gives you more hard disk space.

There don`t seem to be any incompatability issues, and best of all, these programs are easy to use and available free at http://www.download.com

Re: I ripped their floor vinyl.

I use one of two methods dependant on the situation. The teflon coated sliders from B&Q as mentioned in a previous post are really good. I also buy a sheet of 4×2 hardboard from B&Q for about £1.50 and cut it in half which is just the right size for your average appliance. (Don`t cut it if you want to work on a range cooker:lol:) It`s also usefull if the flooring is in bad condition or the doesn`t go right back under the appliance you can just leave the appliance on the board and it makes it easier for next time.

I`ve not had any damaged flooring in 20 years using these methods, although next time I`m in B&Q I`ll check out the mats. I guess they might be easier to handle when I`m struggling up the road in a force nine gale with my toolbox in one hand a hardboard sail in the other ❗

    Hi Steven,

I never have a problem with returns. Rep normally makes a phone call or turns up every month and takes the stuff away. Account normally credited within a month. If he doesn`t turn up I give him a call on his mobile, problem solved.

I`m just a one man band and I don`t have a shop, so I don`t spend megabucks with them but it`s still worth finding out who your rep is and giving him a call. It saves me a lot of hassle.

If your waiting for a response to an email or phone call, or if you`ve been told “someone will call you back” forget it, because they never do!

Re: Neff DW stuck on 1 minute

If it`s stuck with 1 min left in display then it will be a blockage in the pressure system or sump hose. I`ve had four of these with this fault in the last month.

There are two thermistors listed for this machine. One is on the element Pt. No. C00083915 and the other is on the back of the machine listed as temp. sensor control wht Pt.No. C00053573. Hope this helps.

I see there`s a section for microwave ovens. That`s a recipe for disaster. How many have a go types would understand there is a potential of death if you touch the wrong part, even after unpluging the appliance 😯 ❗ ❓
