    The thermocouples are all different.

    Rear right is 948650037
    Front right is 948650036
    Centre is 948650037
    Rear left is 948650038
    Front left is 948650033

In general, the standard thermocouple for the A2 will fit most Smeg range cookers. 948650108.

I can only advise that a CORGI registered engineer carries out this repair and am unable to offer you instructions for unscrewing the hobtop.

Smeg can be contacted on 0870 444 7002

You could also try Repairs@ for a local engineer.

It’s 379201 genuine, £26.99 exc VAT & P+P from MFI (retail). Hard to tell from the diagram which pattern will fit. Dave should be able to help diagnose this when he returns.

    Re: Cutting Your Own Throat

I can confirm that it definately happens for Bosch appliances as I’ve just bought some and they came with an appliaction for extended warranty through D&G. This was on the same form as the Bosch 2 year guarantee, go it’s going in via the manufacturers themselves.

I’ve also noticed a change in D&G BERs over the phone. They used to ask you no end of questions and took forever to reach a decision. Now they just ask the total cost of repair and if it seems too high write it off there & then.

If I was at all suspicious I would say that they’re sitting there reading Comet’s website checking out the prices for a new shed-supplied machine with their own 5-year warranty.

But I’m not like that 🙄

To correctly identify the parts for your hob we’ll need the model number. It should begin with ADP or APL.

Many of the parts are available here in the UKW shop Shop@ or you could contact MFI on 0845 7959722 since Diplomat is one of their brands.

Part number for the dishwasher door lock is 31X8512.

Part number for oven hinge (single) is R1800002.

Try Anglo Iberian on 01245 320992 or Expert Appliance Care on 0870 9099100 if Dave at the UKW shop can’t get them.

Goatboy wrote:Is this going to affect the number of new posts?

Possibly, but not to any detrimental effect in all likelihood. The main drop-offs will be the DIYers who were hoping for quick, specific instructions on how to mend their own appliances.

Goatboy wrote:Is someone monitoring the traffic since this move?

You’re having a laugh. Admin constantly monitor traffic on this site seven days a week.

Goatboy wrote:I hate spam as much as the next guy, but is it that bad?

    Yes

Goatboy wrote:Is this decision up for review?

    Not really

Goatboy wrote:Are the council mulling this one over?

There’s not much to mull over. UKW is being spammed by van loads of Mexicans & Russians and we are not prepared to allow this to continue.

If the customer has to go through all this then I think it could be said that you had taken reasonable precautions to ensure their safety. The key phrase you’re looking for here is ‘Due Dilligence’ 🙂

As Phidom says it’s their appliance and it’s ultimately up to them what to do with it. If they want to bypass your safety precautions then there’s little that you can do about it: you have no legal right to stop them using their electrical appliance how they see fit.

Taking a photo is a good idea. As long as you can prove that you clearly disabled the appliance then you should be able to sleep soundly at night.

If you call MFI on 08457959722 they could supply you with a manual, for a small fee.

Unfortunately we are not allowed to post technical manuals for general consumption due to a combination of manufacturers policies and copyright issues.

Instructions for setting a test programme should be included in the user manual.

    Re: door locked

More than likely the door lock has come loose from the front panel. I’m afraid it’s probably a case of giving it a good tug to open it and hoping for minimal damage.
Probably going to need a new door lock, possibly a new front panel as well.

Try Repairs@ for a local engineer to fix this for you.

If you’re going to have a go yourself then power off first :plug:

If the PCB has burnt out and there’s no visible cause of this then you might be needing a soap dispenser as well – another £28.50 & VAT. If this is faulty it may well take out the new timer within a couple of weeks. 🙁
