ParticipantRe: Whirlpool’s Paddock Wood Destroyed by Fire
It’s just up the road from me, has caused caos with the trains and roads.
But ….. (trying not to giggle too much)
Does that no mean that they have a legitimate excuse for not being able to fix under guarentee machines ??
Had a really upset customer phone up 2 weeks ago with a american GSC9455 with a faulty pump, who had been waiting 2 months for the part to come from abroad…
I told her I could get the pump in on next day delivery and fix it the following day, After she phoned Whirlpool and told them that I was going to repair it and she was sending them the bill, they said that they would be down before the end of the week with the part that was supposedly still abroad.. Funny That Eh !!

ParticipantRe: AAAAAaaaaarrrrgggghhh!!!!!!!Zanussi door seal.
I’ve had many a customer phone up and say “i’ve got the door seal, how much will it cost to fit it, i’ve been tryng for over an hour”.
I with a smile on my face say “That’ll be £30 in total”
I have always used the same little tool, it comes under the “Really handy tools” catagory. it’s a little round bar about 9-10 mm wide and about 4cm long.
Tuck the spring in the door seal at about the 10 o clock position then push the little bar in straight between the block and the seal (it’s really tight and WILL NOT come out) you then have 2 hands free to feed the spring round the rest of the seal, one hand either side of the bar feeding away from it.
Remember to twist the spring round half a turn when your half way round to ensure it doesn’t try to twist back off the seal when you’ve left the house.
It’s a less than a minute job… GET YOURSELF a little bar !!!

ParticipantRe: British Gas, might be looking to poach eangineers
the way he explained it to me was that. from November their workload is set to more than double and that if any engineers know of anyone that would be interested in a starting wage of £20,300 plus bonuses and van
He explained their point system and how it can be fiddled to get the bonuses, it does sound like they are begining to panic
He said he thinks it is something to do with them not being allowed to sell it as an insurance policy, and as it’s sold as a maintanence / service contract, he think they now have to be seen to be servicing non faulty appliances too.
Anyhow, I did think for about 3 nano seconds about going for it, then i thought about how crap they have made the industry for the likes of us independents, My workload has dropped by upto 60{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} over the last 3 years as a result of BG and cheap new machines.
I’ve had to resort to selling my soul on ebay, along with a few pumps and bearings to make ends meet, I think things would have to get quite a bit worse before I give in and go down the employed by BG route.
But I wonder if they are going to be likly to contract out their over spill work, and if so, as independents, would WE be able to FORCE the rate at which we get paid ?? Maybe we’ll all be able to get a bite of the fat BG cookie …

ParticipantRe: worst thing
I think this falls in to this “cat”agory;
Had to go to an emergency call to a pub because of the owners persion cat had climbed in their Zanussi machine and they had not realised till it was too late, They just turned it off, called me and hoped for the best.
😥 not very nice, what made it even more sad was they had a second cat that just sat in front staring at the machine even after i’d got it out.
Not the best job to have to do, and i’d recommend you pass it on to another if you ever get a call to do the same.
Didn’t even have the heart to charge them 🙁

ParticipantRe: Cost of dealing with the public
Thanks all for your replies I’ll try to work my way through them as best I can.
Firstly Alexia, Thanks that made me smile, although I can’t imagine a judge would be happy about me discussing my Seal Blowing habits 😀 although the analogy of it may well highlight the stupidity of the case.
Kwatt & Clive, Legal advice only at not a great level, found more info and details on the net, will not entertain a full defence 🙁
Dave, At the moment it’s at N9b stage, giving 14 days to acknowledge receipt and lodge a defence, I have filed a notice of receipt of service and asking for the full 28 days to record a defence. Which I am sitting up now doing.
Kwatt again, I am sure she has every intention of pursuing this to the full, although from what I’ve read it may well be knocked on the head based on the defence and evidence I supply. so it may well be over before it actually gets to court, I will also be requesting that if it s brought to court, that it be held at MY local County Court, which I am legally entitled to, and that is 20 miles away from her home address. And 1 mile from my own.
It looks as if her whole claim hangs on the inability of the second engineer she called to be able to identify and order the correct module for her machine, and as a result she says she had to call out indesit. And my so called breach of the Sale and Supply of Goods and Services act which states that “the work must be completed within a reasonable time and for a reasonable charge” provided a definite completion date or a price has not been fixed, and in this case NO definite completion date had been fixed only a price.
I feel my defence needs to cover both the above, and although it will be a case of my word against hers for the latter point, the first can be easily be defended provided I can prove the ease in which an engineer should be able to identify and order the correct part required for her machine, and this is where I think my friends here can help, if I can get several different engineers to send me the correct part number for the module on a WG1030G on headed notepaper this will prove that the part is not as elusive as she claimed.
And then try to prove that the claimant has been unreasonable by not allowing me “reasonable Time” as required under the Sale and Supply of Goods and Services act to complete the repair, by calling both a second engineer and indesit within 1 working day of my initial visit to identify the fault.
I received a PM from Martin about subscribing and as I said to him I can see no obvious link to information about how to subscribe otherwise I would have done by now 🙂
Maybe some good may come out of all this, and some form of full legal defence can be insured against, I know the FSB do offer full defence insurance to members but I am not a member. Maybe something along the same lines is possible here; maybe there is an insurance company that specialises in this field.
Thanks again for all your help, I’m gonna get back to my defence from now.Pat-UK
ParticipantRe: Cost of dealing with the public
Thanks All
I am 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} certain she has not got a leg to stand on, the only thing I am worried about is the fact I removed her module from the machine. And she says as a result NO OTHER firm except Indesit were able to repair it. The firm she called in was unable to identify the module that went in the machine ?? And this is what she is basing her whole case on.
The Machine is a WG1030G and there is only ONE module fitted to that machine (C00066454) so the part is quite easily to identify, Wash Vac gave me their bin number over the phone.(if anyone can send me anything agreeing how easy it is to get the part number that would help)
The Indesit invoice clearly shows that only a module was fitted to the machine, proving that my dianosis was 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} correct and that her module was scrap.Below is a link to the last letter I sent her which I thought clearly pointed out she did not have a legal case.
