Re: Help! Hotpoint WD41 Washer/Dryer instantly tripping RCD.

    OK…..

Please don’t take this the wrong way – you’re not filling me with confidence here………… The fan motor is blowing air down the heater duct (the box on top of the drum), and the safety cut-out sits on top. It’s part number 1600870 – if required. To be honest you need to be able to use a multimeter correctly and safely to check the circuits. If the motor is leaking to earth an insulation tester is the neccessary tool.

As for the brushes, the “hard to get at one” will be shorter than the one you have extracted; anything less than say 5mm is finished.

I would suggest you need to stop and have a think – pro help may be your best option, as simply throwing parts at the machine can prove to be an expensive and fruitless exercise.

    Hooray! Well said that man…..

I suspect it’s just the latest form of protectionism that has plagued all trade for time immemorable. Anything that turns a buck………

Mmm – the implication is earth leakage. No “tickles” from the casing? Really, get it sorted ASAP. That said, we survived for years on fuses using wire before the RCD and MCD came along.

I take it the sprog is not yet fully mobile – that will give you a bit of time at least.

If you’re struggling, check Directories or repairs@ for a UKW engineer in your area.

    Cheers,
    Chris.

The fan is the cooling fan for the dryer blower motor, so will only be activated for the drying cycle. My prime suspect would be the drive motor itself – if the motor is used with the brushes badly worn it can develop earth faults. Check the wiring around the motor and around the edge of the casing as well – chaffing is a well known problem.

    Power off please,

In theory it’s a problem with the motor – the computer thinks it isn’t behaving. Check wiring, motor brushes for starters. If all ok, the computer itself may be playing up. If so, time for some pro help.

I would suspect a partial element failure – it is a double circuit element, so one circuit has probably expired.

Calm down dears, its only an enquiry……..

So a fruitless couple of hours in the workshop later………. Another new lower gasket fitted (Water now fountains out of the rh corner – spectacular but of little practical use.) Clipping down the tub edge of the seal has slowed things a bit. Have tried several different botton rotors both straight and “S” shaped and swapped the pressure set-up. Setting the main body seal forward slightly to increase contact has made no difference. I might swap the inner door panel just to get the set…….. 🙄

Any of you Bosch chaps got any thoughts on this?

    Cheers,
    Chris.

Is what you want – access is through the door seal. The lock cannot be adjusted, only replaced.

We can’t tell you exactly what is involved in replacing the bearings from the work point of view. It is a matter of replacing the rear crosspiece in its entirety – p/no 283726 £112.08 plus VAT plus P&P 😯 .

Best bet would be to go to http://www.bshappliancecare.com and follow the links – the exploded diagrams will give you a good idea of what’s going to be involved.

They want you to buy the entire brush ring Andy. Maddocks do loose ones for pennies – 12-BS-02 – or that nice Mr Conway’ll have them. 5 minutes with the soldering iron will do the trick.

There was a gen p/no – 021521 – but it doesn’t seem to work anymore.

Re: Decoding/interpreting current Bosch model numbering

Forgive me being cynical, but the more models you can splatter across the market, the more “presence” you have in the marketplace. This is the glorious age of Google and Jeeves after all. In a way, it’s very like cars – you spend a fortune on a “platform”, then build different bodies on it – BUT – its the same basic thing.

It is well known in the trade that the hundred pound difference between a 1000 spin Indesit autowasher and the 1200 version was a snap-off link on the electronic board, similarly with the Hotpoint you could cut a link wire to get the same result.

So, if you realise that the “mark-up” for the extra options is where the extra cost lies, you’ll go for a nice sensible 5 programme machine, no bells and whistles, take the 2 year guarantee from Bosch (nice) and you’ll be OK for 5 – 7 years.

I’m afraid that even a new Bosch won’t last like the last one, but not bad for these days.

Personally, I’d flush that hose out and keep the old girl going – after all it’s taken this long to finally go wrong………

Also worth bearing in mind that the “suspended” floor on the ground floor, especially in a modern house, is almost unique to Britain. The whole world builds houses with concrete ground floors – except here. I can’t see why manufacturers should make an exception for our failure to move with the times.
