With the power off, use a stout piece of wire with an “L” on the end to hook the door latch back to the open position.

If it does it again, replace latch assembly.

The site is owned, run and managed by professional repairers.

The state of this particular industry is a shambles. UKW exists primarily to promote the lot of the Independent Repairers – along the way, we are prepared to help the public, debunk myths, name and shame where appropriate and generally make a stand against the appalling decline in quality of the products we are forced to service. The whole industry is basically a disgrace.

Your machine is an elderly one by modern standards, but was quite decent. Personally, I wouldn’t recommend shelling out that much money on a motor, as other parts, specifically trim, are starting to become obsolete. If it’s jammed, needs a capacitor or the wiring hads failed, fair enough, fix it. The major outlay for a new motor is rather marginal due to the low residual value of an older machine – think old car. You like it it, you spend on it but what’s it actually worth?

Says the man who has spent 9 months and far too much time and money restoring a 42 year old Wolseley………. 😀

Aaah – but would the CADCAM computer agree? You pays the money and takes your choice.

Obviously a non-European manufacturer will have lower overheads in as much as they don’t need to pay their people very much. The price of plastic is pretty much constant the world over, because it’s a commodity.

So – you have a possibility of buying a better design, manufactured for a lower cost. Pure fluke if the buying public twig. They’re either cost obsessed because it’s “only” a vacuum cleaner, or they go the other way and buy expensive.

Dyson gets away with this as they will not sell a budget product and market it very well – people like the science and the clever British designer, but there are major questions over the science and the clever Briton makes the things in Malaysia, where you don’t have to pay people very much… And the plastic still breaks and the drive motors explode when the carbon brushes wear out.

SEBO in the meantime make a nice simple solid machine which works very well and the people who bother to do their research buy them.

    Take your pick.

‘Night Ratty, I’m off to bed.

Why? They all make stuff in order to make money. Given that the sheds are constantly turning the screws on the manufacurers for ever tighter margins, the only mugs are the public who will simply buy on price.

Then come on here and moan about it…….. 😀

In some ways, it was an unfortunate machine – stainless outer tank with a crosspiece bearing carrier should have made for a decent appliance, but the pcb, motor and bearing quality were disappointing. It was an Indesit clone mechanically, but poorly done.

Re: Build quality and brand names!

There is a very old OU programme which was part of a design module, and looked at the design of vacuum cleaners. They were working specifically with Electrolux. Quite fascinating how the (working) prototype design was reprocessed and you could watch the computer modifying the design by removing plastic structure until it reached the production standard.

I can only assume that these standards have ben progressively “shaved” over the years to maintain pricing points.

A3 is no heat detected in the time allowed – if the water doesn’t circulate, there is very limited heating, so they tie up together.

The heater is powered directly from the computer board. If the heater is showing resistance and you get a very similar reading from the connector to it at the pcb end, the fault more or less has to be the pcb.

Circulation motor is the square metal casing with the fan in the end. If turned manually, it should feel “heavy” but smooth running, in which case the capacitor is the most likely culprit. If it won’t move, you have a bigger problem.

    Re: Zanussi DW930 A7 fault?

It is a circulation motor error. It may be jammed, blown or not getting a feed ( broken wires in door. Also possible that the start/run capacitor has failed.
