    Re: Heating problem

    It’s a Merloni-built machine.

The thermostat has two functions. The black wires are connecting a 95c safety thermostat directly in line with the heating element. The terminals should be normally closed, so you should get continuity across them when tested with a meter. The blue wires are connected to a thermistor. This should give a reading in kOhms, falling as the temperature rises.

The prime suspect on any Merloni machine is always the computer board – they are notoriously unreliable. Check for burnt out solder joints and burnt tracks.

Cycle will not complete if no heat; there is a pressure switch in the heater box which needs circulation to allow the heater to activate. Therefore you need to look at the motor – it may be jammed or the start/run capacitor may have failed.

Remove r/h side panel for access – power off first.

50/50 shot here – if it’s a cheapie, it’s got a gas capillary stat, the others use pcbs and high temperature thermistor sensors.

    No straight answer I’m afraid.

If it has filled, the next step should be circulation. The humming noise will be power going to the pump, but it’s not running.

Start/run capacitor may have failed, in which case you’ll need one of THESE. The motor may be seized for a variety of reasons.

Either way, you’re going to have to drag it out and have a look underneath.

    Power off first,

    I’d contact EMW…..

There is a serial number break, so choice of two modules; you’ll also need a low end adaptor, card reader and programme card.

Re: Help with Hotpoint AQXXF 149 – can’t get the filter off

Plug out, lean machine back to a good angle and remove the hose from the tub ot the pump at the pu,p end. You will then be able to extract the foreign body through the inlet tube. Then you can remove the filter.

This all depends on whether or not you’ve got the machine on the plinth/drawer thing.

Hmm – could be either depending on manufacturing date. Top off and have a look inside the control panel to see which one is fitted.
