As the wet wall has blown then it is definitely not repairable.

You are correct in thinking it’s low on Gas or compressor worn, you could also check for movement in the plastic wet wall to see if the wet wall has movement.
Its worth checking to see if the fan is faulty as this could also cause a problem.
if the fans ok the other problems are most likely beyond economical repair.

Check the door seals to make sure there is no leaks.

The switch is a heater switch for low ambient temperatures during winter. Also it doubles up as a fast freeze switch for the freezer.

As Dave said it could be down to the insulation is not as good on older appliances and this weather the compressor has to work hard.

Also it could be as the compressor is old it may not be pumping as good as it used to not giving the same sort of compression it used to.

It could still be blocked with ice as the evaporator is covered and you would not be able to see if it was iced up.
its worth carrying out a 48 hour defrost by turning it off at the mains and leave the doors open.
If that does not cure the problem then it may be cheaper to replace it.

I said call there bluff that the call is recorded not to record the call.
if you are telling them over a phone call you can just deny it as they also cannot use any recordings and it’s unlikely they would be recording it anyway if they are making threats.

Don’t let them intimidate you just send the letter and I would be surprised if you here anymore.
If they phone your wife and make any threats, tell your wife to call there bluff, and say all calls are recorded and if you get any further threats you will forward the recordings to the police.
I would be surprised if she would here anything again.

It would have been better if you had not given a refund as the customer could use this against you as admitting you did not replace the seal correctly.
As you carried out the repair as per the customers instructions they were not entitled to a refund.

Gather as much information as you can.

Advise the customer you gave a refund as an act of goodwill and that you advised at the time the door seal looked ok and was not the source of the leak and would require investigation.

Tell them you are not responsible for any water damage and if they decide to take you to court you will make a counter claim for the original repair and administration and legal cost.

Put this in writing on your business headed note paper and I would then be surprised if you here from them again.

It’s most likely the smell could be connected to the tray on top of the compressor.

something could have been spilled inside the fridge and down the drain hole onto the compressor tray or something has got into the compressor tray.

Mice do like it near compressors on fridges as it’s nice and warm for them and the tray is a source of water for them so they can drop things in the tray.

Just google online how refrigeration works and fault finding and as long as you do not break into the refrigerant system you do not have to be F Gas registered.
They just use a heat pump refrigerant system instead of a heater so the same as any dryer to repair.
Just make sure fans are working and all grills clear of dust and fluff as system faults are rare unless there is a leak of refrigerant or compressor fault.
If you need to get a Refrigeration safe handling certificate most Colleges run courses.

It sounds like the ice bucket has been put back in incorrectly .
It maybe the long lever underneath the ice bucket to switch to crushed ice may be jammed under the solenoid switch at the back.
the only way is to lift the bucket at the front and try pulling it out with a quick pull.
you should be able to check if this is the problem by looking under the ice box to see if the lever is in the square lever receiver or jammed under it.

It could still be a problem with ice in the freezer compartment.
Check the freezer fan is working and if you can see any signs of ice in the vents in the freezer.
you can also check to see if the compressor is running hot as it could be a refrigerant problem if the compressor is hot.

There was a modification kit made to fit the rear panel it included a new sensor and plastic adapters to alter air flow but made little difference.
it was a common fault on this model that ice could build up.
The insulation on the bottom rear panel in the freezer generally last about five years, The polystyrene insulation fails and retains a lot of moisture so it does not defrost fully and ice builds up.
The ice build up can also stop the fan in the panel working.
Once it has been defrosted it should return to normal for quite awhile.
