    Thanks for replying

I checked the heater for continuity and megger to earth OK
    motor brushes OK
    water levels and pumping OK
    meggered whole m/c OK

It spun OK for me, just the two neons on at the same time seemed to make the customer a bit paranoid

If everyone in the trade all took a holiday at the same time, we might be better apprieciated

    Re: Maytag AYE2200AGW Tumble Dryer

If you turn back the timer the 1st click should be heater off, 2nd click motor off. If you want to live test it, just use a volt meter on the heater terminals. OR, as I do, use an ampmeter, so can see exactly when, or if, the heater switches off HTH

    Re: Maytag AYE2200AGW Tumble Dryer

The 10 min cool down is controled by the timer, just like most dryers with a mechanical timer, so that would be 1st thing I would check. I would also check that fluff is not obstructing the airflow HTH

    Update

I had a call from a woman in Trading Standards at Suffolk County Council. She said my name was picked at random to repair the w/m, basically they were checking on other companys, and they couldn’t find any one else. So peterjay was correct

peterjay wrote:trading Standers only setup a sting in a aera if they are after 1 person or company but have to call in 3 companys otherwise any evidence would not stand up in court.

They were very happy that I done the job correctly.

When I asked about the 7 day cancellation laws ( I pleaded ignorance, against Martins advice ) she said that they were not written with this trade in mind, and it is difficult to implement them. They are to protect vulnerable people against rogue traders cold calling. As I said to her all of my customers want jobs done in 1 day, never mind 7. To offer them their rights, then get them to sign them away is a farce, and she agreed.

However to get your customer to waive their rights protects you from rogue customers who can refuse to pay your bill if they are not told of their RTC. The tone of her call was not of any worry of prosecution for not telling customers of their RTC.

Looking back the whole set up of the call was suspicious. So if you are called to a small terraced house with minimal or no furniture, completely clear kitchen worktops, a very easy to find and unusual fault, a customer who leaves the room and doesn’t talk to you. BEWARE it may be a set up. And don’t think, ‘it wont happen to me’.

    Thanks to all who replied

    Tim.

    Hi Tim
The machine was a Whirlpool washer, the ‘fault’ was the motor plug disconnected which gave the sympton of machine o/c. The call was 10 miles away in Suffolk. It took me 30 mins to find fault, test machine, and write the invoice. This all happened in March. I charged £45.00

I met Sid James when we rented a W/M for an end of the pier show. Got his autograph as well.

Thank you very much for the info Dave, it’s just what I need. After studying the diagrams I think your correct in saying the stats are the fault. I will order them.

I know AW Services of Norwich do a disk with Diplomat parts on it. Did you get this info from the same disk? Thanks again

Cheaper than a new m/c. I usually charge a days labour + a bit more for any hassles + the parts.

Armstrongs are your best bet tel 01635263412. They even supply manuals

Direct drive via the belt and pulley, so prob a gearbox fault. Remove the tub springs and the whole tub and gearbox assy lifts off. When you replace the gearbox you will also need the drive bell and seal kit. Not too bad a job, just needs a bit of thought

The counter balance weight mounted on the front of the drum is full of water. So the sloshing is normal.
