ParticipantOk no probs, if you still have it apart then you could check for any loose connections or alternatively keep using it and see what happens. Good luck with it.

ParticipantHi Mike: If as you said earlier your tester lights up on both sides of the element, the neutral to the element has to be missing. Otherwise the tester could only light on 1 side, one question: Are you sure you checked both sides of the same element ?.

ParticipantHi Mike: The 2 wires should be separated really, if your Neon screwdriver lit up on both Element terminals then that would indicate that the problem was a loss of Neutral to the Element. This could be due to bad connections but is more often due to a faulty selector switch, you may be able to see some burning marks on the switch if you look at it carefully with a bright torch. The only cure for this would be replacement, Please make sure that the power is off Before checking.

ParticipantHi: We never encourage Live testing of appliances, it’s extremely dangerous. However as you’ve already done it, do you mean that you put your meter across the element terminals with the element connected and got 240v ?.

ParticipantWell found, eBay may be a good option to find a good used spider if you can’t get a new one.

ParticipantSounds very much like the strips used to separate the windings on some motors.

ParticipantDave mate: If your testing at the element with a Multimeter or 2 pole tester and get 240v then the Neutral is there, otherwise the meter wouldn’t read. I’m not talking about testing to Earth from each leg, but directly across the Live & Neutral at the element.

ParticipantWhen you say reaction, can you explain ?. If you have a circuit through the element, probably in the region of 25 to 40 Ohms and 240v at the element connections with the element connected then your element should heat.
In this scenario continuity testing is not really any good to you.Specialist01269
ParticipantCheers buddy, will remember that.

ParticipantThanks K, no doubt no way of telling which is which until you open it up.

ParticipantCould be one of a number of problems but you’ve possibly popped the control PCB, As it’s still under guarantee just contact your provider and let them deal with it.
