Exactly Mal, we all need to keep our options open and spread our business around. The worse thing to ever have is a monoply !

I was of course referring to the white goods side of things, they may operate a profitable operation in the plumbing, heating and climate devisions thats a lot of comfort to customers of washvac who were left high and dry by wolseley !
My mind is not changed, when they get rid of customers and staff many of who have been longstanding customers and long term expereinced employees then that speaks volumes.
The future will be the telling point and we will have to wait and see how it pans out.
We still have heard nothing from Wolseley regarding closure of the Kent Warehouse or the fact that our rep will no longer be calling.
No Contact, Bad form by any account.

Enjoy it while you can, Washvac was born in Kent and now it has demised
Can Wolsley ever understand out trade ? I have my doubts based on thier performance thus far.Another thing as well, Washvac aka partscentre is a very small part of wolselys total operations, with the near catastrophic failures, loss of business and loss of confidence with its longstanding customer base how long will it be before some sharp eyed suit with a calculator decideds that the poor realation in the wolsely empire is no longer profitable and it gets the chop !
When a company scales down its operations and cannot be even botherd to let its partners know that sucks in my book.
Lets wait and see how it all pans out, as for the other suppliers like Connect, SEME and Qualtex they are doing a pretty convincing job and Qualtex are making inroads off the back of Partscentre by opening a centre in Sittingbourne while partscentre were asleep and they offer great service as do Connect at least for me.

Mal,
Having been a client of Washvac aka Partscentre for 40 years ! we hava not received anything at all from them regarding the current situation and you have to wonder what planet those people who sit on the managment of PC are on !
Since Wolsely got their hands on Washvac they have slowly but surely strangled the golden goose with their own bare hands. If there was ever a sure fire way to run a company into the ground the these people should get a certificate of reconition.
Still what does it matter ? we can all spend our budgets elsewhere with companies who do offer real service and Wolsely can concentate on using partscentre as a loss.

Normally leave them on hold a while, they get quickly fed up and hang up ! the upshot is that they hardly ever call back .

Dal,
This issue of call out charges is an old chesnut and as has already been said the last discussion got lively to say the least.
That said I came to realise a fair while ago that joe public has the word Call Out Charge etched into their heads and in my opinion a lot of people in this trade spend far too much time talking about call out charges.
Each of us have our very own way of dealing with this problem and the bottom line is why should you be expected to work for nothing ! its just not reasonable is it ?
My own solution to the Call Out Charge discussion is this, Customer rings and starts a conversation of how much my call out charge is.
Before it goes anywhere I disarm them by telling them that I do not have a call out charge to come to there house. However we do have a labour charge for working on their appliance which is a fixed labour charge and in the event that the appliance is BER we will reduce the labour charge to a lesser charge.
If they then say that this is still a call out charge I ask them this.
When you go to work do you charge your employer a call out charge to arrive at your place of work ? No ? Well you natrually require payment once you start work don’t you.
Most people can then see the difference and I have a 98{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} take up on these terms. You can end up going round in circles with customers over the call out charge issue and I have little or no time for this boring discussion. Try it and let me know how you get on.

ParticipantRe: Beko WMA 510W
Mike, do you know if the software issue is a common problem across the Beko range, if this is indeed the case have you heard of what the solution may be ?
Having software with problematic coding is one thing, but software can be revised in such instances, that is why I am asking about this.
I will however check the v at the inputs of the PCB to elimintate this equation.

ParticipantRe: Using Laptops in the field
Along with a few other engineers I know who use laptops I wold be lost without mine, Stolen ? well you could apply that to your Sat Nav, Tools, or come to that Van ? Having a laptop stolen outweighs in my opionion the many benefits that a computer brings to a modern business.
I use mine for all my administration, invoicing, accounts, Customer Retention, looking up spare parts via TDS, TESS, Partfinder, SIOS, Connections, Spareslink, as well as a huge amount of pdf manuals for GDA. If I were to carry this lot using paper I would need another van! In fact when I used to carry hardcopy manuals just for one brand they took up a hell of a lot of room on the van.
A PDA is fine, but veiwing the internet via a mobile or small screen is not my choice and the laptop is an important tool for me lke any other tool I use in my day to day job.

If you have access to TDS or Tess then the procedures for the diagnostic tests are fully covered there.
