    Re: Masterpart Ceased Trading

The Masterpart website is still live, and they still have 153,000 live listings on ebay. However, their demise wouldn’t surprise me given the continual struggle they seem to have had over the last few years to maintain adequate stock levels. I wonder whether Qualtex will buy them out.

I have done a lot of business with Masterpart over the years and not so long ago they were my biggest supplier. Their demise would be a sad day for our industry. Thank goodness Maddocks, who since revamping their business a couple of years ago, have attracted a significant chunk of my orders, with their keen pricing and excellent customer service.

Zanussi dryers a close second to Bosch on durability. Only common issue I’ve come across is capacitor fade. Easier to work on than Bosch.

Blanchford in Oxford are one of the cheapest Miele dealers online. Free nationwide delivery. I used them myself a few weeks ago for a couple of Miele appliances and was very pleased with their price and service. 01865 759210.

Re: What washer dryer would you recommend

Recent Electrolux group washer dryers suffer from poor quality blowers, which typically become noisy and seize after 18 months with regular use. Other than that, I’d second Martin’s comment. Most are prone to blocking up with fluff after only a couple of years of family use. Not a good investment for anyone doing more than a couple of cycles a week.

Unfortunately, I suspect work providers are not particularly interested in what jobs are worth, as long as there are contractors willing to accept their rates.

What width is it – 900, 1000 or 1100? Dual Fuel or Gas? There are not many stainless steel models on AWS’s list, so I should be able to narrow it down quite quickly.

Don’t put your cheque book away yet – there’s another 104 books to be issued next year! Expect those well-paid reps (Do they still drive round in their Audi A3s canvassing for business?) to try to persuade you to part with your cash to appear in the last ever issue – imagine the benefit of your advert remaining on that old dear’s shelf for the next 10 – 20 years, all for a one-off fee! Though with all of one wash cycle a fortnight, don’t hold your breath for the next call out.

Install their own kitchen – appliance feet trapped under laminate flooring, hoses concealed along with supply taps behind the sink unit – then proudly demonstrate their diy skills as I wait for them to remove flooring strips, disconnect the sink from the plumbing below and lift the entire worktop away in order to provide access. Too right when they remark that it’s lucky they haven’t got round to installing the granite worktop yet. Then everything gets put back the same way as I write out the paperwork, collect payment, and leave. Will they learn the lesson I wonder?

Re: Whitegood Fires to be debated on Jeremy Vine

LFB are correct to publicise how people can keep themselves safe, eg by registering appliances, but they should perhaps focus more on safe use eg, reading the instruction manual, ensuring good ventilation, keeping the appliance clean, not piling rubbish up behind fridges, tumble dryers, etc. They should probably be taking any concerns about appliance design standards to the appropriate national and international standards bodies, eg BSI, CENELEC, etc, rather than the Prime Minister.

I suspect there may in part be a political (mainly with a small “p”) motive behind this campaign, with the Mayor of London and LFB taking the moral high ground in the light of public disquiet over the Grenfell Tower tragedy. It could even be an attempt to divert attention away from scrutiny of LFB’s own role, eg in signing off the refurbishment work or in its management of the incident itself, eg its instructions to residents not to evacuate, even as the tower block was becoming engulfed in flames.

These are part of the Pacifica Group, so likely closely linked to JTM contracts, et al. Well established company, but not universally loved by service partners, from what I have often read here.

They seem to have replaced the black component (inductor?) on the old motor with the more conventional capacitor attached to the new motor, so presumably the black component on the old motor is redundant and the wire will need to connect to the capacitor or one of the motor terminals instead?

I know what you mean, Tim, but I could do without those black pungent slimy door seals that make my hands small bad for the rest of the day. I guess it’s unrealistic of me though to expect that any of these customers or tenants will want to splash out the RRP of £5 for just 12 washes.

It’ll be interesting to see the ingredients. Hopefully they’ve put the bleaching agents back and we can look forward to fewer rancid machines.
