    Re: Zanussi dryer

I think it would be as well to delete this advice, as anyone can read it, and in untrained hands, it could be dangerous. It is true there are fewer fully exposed live parts under the lids of many machines than there used to be, but this insulation is there mainly for functional reasons, and does not meet statutory requirements for protection against electric shock.

Perhaps they should consider taking on their own commercial appliances. They advised me on Monday that they don’t support these out of warranty and advise owners to find a local independent. Seems an odd policy to me.

    Re: AGA F/freezer

If the engineer came from Italy, I wonder if the Aga product reaper saw was a rebadged Smeg. I saw something in the trade press recently about Smeg launching some extremely pricey high end refrigeration products, here:

    http://www.smeguk.com/smeg_com/docs/common_pdf/Smeg_Luxury_17.pdf

Roughly £8k a piece for the freestanding models.

    Re: is there any hope?

I suspect Currys often make no money on the product sale, but hope to cash in on add-ons once the customer is in-store.

By way of example, my parents in law recently bought a TV from Currys priced at around £600. However, they came out of the store having paid about £1200. Persuasive reps had talked them into buying expensive HDMI cables (two of different lengths charged for but only one supplied!), calibration DVD, extended warranty and upgrade to their Sky package, none of which they actually needed. Needless to say, I went back into the store with my father in law and they readily arranged for all the extras to be refunded.

    Re: Appliance and Domestic

I declined a service request from them a few weeks ago. The terms and conditions they submitted with their request didn’t make much sense and weren’t to my liking.

The address they give is a virtual address. The official company name is The Appliance Alliance Limited. They were incorporated around 18 months ago and there is no financial information on the public record. The correspondence address at Companies House is a semi detached house in North London. They have had a whole series of director changes which raises some questions about their stability. They are currently on notice for compulsory strike off due to non-submission of statutory return.

Their logo suggests that they are trying to pass themselves off as Domestic & General. When I spoke to their client he told me he had switched from Domestic & General due to lower pricing but he seemed distinctly unimpressed with how Appliance & Domestic had responded to his request for service.

My account was reopened yesterday. No mention of a minimum spend policy. I guess they have worked out those few extra thousand pounds turnover per year are worth having after all.

Thanks Bryan, it’s the motor that’s failed, but I was assuming it came as a complete assembly.

    Re: Insurance Claim

Unfortunately, you probably don’t have any rights, as you accepted the renewal premium. Have you asked the insurance company to adjust the premium, now that the issue is resolved in your favour? If they won’t, you could try following their complaints procedure, as set out in the policy.

Alternatively, if you don’t want the uncertainty and delay, check the cancellation terms in the policy, as you may well save a lot by switching insurer.

    Re: cheap skate or clueless

Thank goodness for those older Which?-reading John Lewis-shopping customers who appreciate the refinement, performance and feel-good factor offered by mid-range and premium machines. That get the same type of satisfaction from investing in a superior brand of washing machine as they get from investing in the latest MacBook Pro, Dyson rechargeable vacuum cleaner or Range Rover Evoque. Those customers who don’t mind paying a little extra for good service and reward you with loyalty and repeat custom.

I guess part of Qualtex’s expansion plan, outlined a month ago here:

    https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/global-distributor-qualtex-acquires-jegs-national-expansion-uk

I guess their motive is to pursue growth in market share so they can increase margins and boost profitability. This may help them to achieve the level of shareholder dividends enjoyed by the likes of their arch rivals Connect.

    Re: Bosch WVD24660GB02 not completing

Would that be WVD24460GB/02? Wash programs cutting short on Bosch washing machines are usually caused by target temperature not being reached, eg open circuit heater, not unusual on these washer dryers.

As for the other discrepancies, I assume you have advised the customer the displayed program time is only a rough guide and not intended to reflect reality? Eg cycles will finish a lot quicker with no load, but can take a lot longer if the load is out of balance, which explains why the times jump up or down when the program recalculates.

The Spares4appliances website still appears live, although I notice they no longer have live listings on ebay. Their last sale on ebay was on 11 October.
