I assume you’re up to speed with the Bosch dishwasher recall affecting these pcbs?

Polish washing machines according to the BBC. Amica or Samsung, maybe, but I guess some major European brands have factories in Poland too.

Veto Pro Pac are very good. Not many sellers, but you’ll find them online.

Google only finds them on sale on eBay, 3 different models, sold by Washking Discount Ltd of Burnley, but pictures show a Baumatic, a Cookworks and a Beko!

    Re: Advice needed

In my experience, a soft approach is always best, even if you fear the worst.

A text along the lines of “Just a quick reminder that I haven’t received your payment for … Payment details 00-00-00 12345678 £99.99. If you can transfer funds in the next day or two, that would be great.” With a bit of luck, you’ll get a text back later that day to say: “Sorry about the delay, now paid online.”

In other cases, the customer may stall as they genuinely don’t have the money, not necessarily wanting to admit that. By remaining courteous and patient, the money usually turns up in the end. In 10 years of trading, I’ve only once not been paid, although in a couple of other cases I’ve had to turn up unannounced on the doorstep.

Good news, possibly a good time for your reminder just after pay day!

Bear in mind that if you didn’t follow the correct procedure under the new Consumer Contracts Regulations, ie provide the required written information and cancellation rights to the customer at the time the additional work was agreed, you may find the “verbal contract” unenforceable if your customer defends your claim.

I can’t quite figure out how you managed that. Do the newer machines allow you to dismantle the fan housing without removing the front panel?

Re: rubbish non genuine dryer capacitors

Out of interest, are these capacitors fitted to tumble dryer or dishwasher motors? How long are they lasting?

I’ve noticed in the last few years that a lot of the genuine factory fitted tumble dryer capacitors seem to deteriorate rapidly, often halving their capacity in only 2 to 3 years of use. Capacitor brands such as Ducati, a favourite of Zanussi, used to last happily for 10 years or more, but now seem to fade as fast as any.

They certainly don’t meet the claimed lifespan printed on them. But it keeps us in business.

    There’s and interesting discussion here:

It seems electricians have varying opinions on this.

Re: Is my card reader faulty

Could yours be an early card reader by any chance? If so, it may not be compatible with 32KB smart cards for newer machines. The cards are usually labelled 8KB or 32KB.

From memory, the early card readers are only compatible with 8KB cards, whereas later card readers will read both 8KB and 32KB cards.

Re: Regas fridges yes or no

Apparently, according to Google Shopping, there are already loads on the market – combined air conditioners and air source heat pumps. Bulky, ugly, things with the vent hose usually hanging out of the window. Although more efficient than straight electric heaters, gas is probably still a cheaper and more convenient option.

Thanks, Martin. So far the customer says the machine is still working fine, but I’ll act on your advice if this changes.
