The energy labels specify typical running costs (in kWh) based on the standard european tests. Yes, manufacturers publish these test results, and they will do all they can to minimise the results, but are they really going to lie?
While these tests may not fully reflect the real world use (much like the standard mpg figures for cars), I’d wager that they are a lot more stringent and reliable than the one off test done by Twicknix and should provide a reasonable basis for comparison.
I believe Which also measure running costs as part of their assessments, but they obviously only cover a small fraction of the market.

I think we will see more and more of these dryers as buyers become attracted to the A, A+, A++ and higher energy efficiency ratings they can achieve compared to at best B for conventional dryers. At least if marketers and retailers do their job properly.
They should be really good news for repairers as owners are less likely to throw them away when they break down. Ok, heat pump system faults may well push some of them beyond economic repair, but there will be plenty of the usual run of the mill items to sort out, such as belts, bearings, sensors and motor capacitors.

Should that be W489iWPS, maybe?

ParticipantRe: Connect PCB policy.
I have returned unused pcbs to Connect in the past without difficulty. Most suppliers have sent me the occasional previously fitted pcb in the past, regardless of their returns policy, but I can’t remember any in recent years proving faulty.
The most worrying case for me was a Bosch tumble dryer module (retail price £242) I recently bought directly from BSH. The box seal was broken and it contained a 7 year old used and presumably faulty module. BSH were at a loss to explain this, but arranged refund without quibble.

ParticipantRe: Bosch better than Hotpoint, ‘Really’ ?????
2.5 years to wear out Bosch motor brushes I have only seen once, by a family of 6 adults. The typical lifespan is between 4 and 12 years, depending on use.
She hadn’t by any chance used the dreaded “reset procedure” for these Bosch machines? I have come across a few motor failures on more recent cheaper Bosch machines, but as far as I can recall, in each case the customer had searched the internet and followed one of the numerous “helpful” postings explaining how to reset the F21 or corresponding flashing lights fault code.
These machines are designed to lock out the motor at the first hint of any arcing from the motor and unfortunately owners are over-riding this protection by resetting the fault code and consequently inadvertently damaging their machines, sometimes beyond economic repair.

Hi, clutching at straws I know, but has anyone still got access to the wiring diagram for this dishwasher
Unlike Penguin, I can’t blame the customer. In a moment of inattention, I’ve lost track of the drain pump wiring – I have two wires joined together connected to neutral and two individual wires I think I may need to join together at the other terminal, but I’d rather be sure I’m not going to short something out.

What time does the main event kick off on Friday? I’ll be travelling on the day and would hate to miss anything! Apologies if this has already been answered.

ParticipantRe: Liebherr……….really?
The compressors on mine are ACC – don’t know if that’s good or bad – but they still run incredibly quietly. At over £1300 in 2007 I’ll be disappointed if it doesn’t last 20 years!

ParticipantRe: Liebherr……….really?
Liebherr are the Miele of the refrigeration world, in fact Liebherr manufacture Miele’s refrigeration products as well. Just like Miele, their products are top quality, expensive to buy and costly to repair!
We’ve had a high end Miele fridge freezer for 8 years (from Liebherr’s Austrian factory) and it has been absolutely superb. The only problems we’ve had are a block of ice in the bottom of the freezer caused by the kids leaving the door ajar in the summer after getting ice cream, which required a defrost 2 years ago, and a worn out fridge door handle mechanism, again due to abuse by the three kids.

Not yet.. but I’ve not used Qualtex as much since they increased postage charges. I’ve always found them the best of the wholesalers for special orders.

ParticipantRe: Puting a higher rated oven element in
I wouldn’t be so worried about burning the cakes, more about burning the house down, due to overloading the oven’s internal circuitry. Added to that the possibility of reduced lifespan of the element due to inadequate air flow.
Bear in mind, also, that any elements rated at 230V are already operating at 9{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} above rated power if connected to a 240V supply, as typically found in the UK.

ParticipantRe: EBAC washing machines launch in the spring
The drums are upside down on the production line, so it looks like they have a pretty normal layout for mounting the motor, counterbalance weights, drum inlet, etc. One tub half screw is visible just above the block supporting the drum the manager is posing against.
Does anyone recognise any of the components as coming from another manufacturer’s parts bins? I don’t do enough tub jobs myself to notice any obvious similarities.

ParticipantRe: Tds windows8
I don’t know whether it will work on Winsdows 8, but type “Windows 8 compatibility mode” into Google and you will find links to Microsoft support on running software designed for older versions of Windows.
I use the version of TDS you have successfully on Windows 7 (32 bit) with Compatibility mode set to Windows XP SP3.

ParticipantRe: Partfinder
…In theory, yes, but it’s not 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} reliable, and picking the right one can involve scouring through detailed generic technical notes, sometimes requiring detailed knowledge of Indesit control system development history.
For example, for WD440, the software is different depending on fill type (hot & cold or cold only), cold inlet valve type (3 way or 4 way) and motor type (52mm or 60 mm stack). The descriptions against the 4 different software versions listed (out of a theoretical 8 possible combinations of these hardware types) are not detailed enough to let you confidently pick the right one.
