I like the calls you get from the customers who have for example just moved into a place with a new fitted kitchen (with sink trap and washer outlet) and don’t realise when installing their m/c, they need to remove the blank, or cut off the end of the nozzle on the trap. I get quite a few of these. 😀

ParticipantRe: Ariston Margaritta Eeprom
Hi Hotpnt
Whats confusing me here is the only fault with the machine is it dosn’t seem to go into a full spin. When i had a look at the module believe it or not there was a dead mummyfied frog with his face stuck to a couple of resisters on the board. So i had the board tested but no fault found and was told it was the eeprom, hence fitted new eeprom. But what it does with the new eeprom it would do with the old one would it not, if there was a fault elsewhere?
cheers

Hi Clive
Have you checked out the start relay and overload? Had a blown power board on one of these myself caused by a problem with this.

ParticipantRe: Has it gone a bit quiet or is it just me?
Last week was my worst week i can remember. My phone did not ring for 4 days, i kept ringing it from another phone to check it was working. Then when i did finally get a call it was the Yellow Pages rep asking how my advert was doing and to arrange processing my new advert for septembers issue. He was surprised at my lack of enthusiasm.

ParticipantRe: Servis Fridge Freezer M7554-1FF
I can’t remember which model, but i’ve been out to a couple of the quite new service frost free’s with this problem and found a block of ice seems to build up between the drip tray and the bottom of the evaporator blocking the vent up to the fridge. The rest of the evaporator was clear and heater and everything checked out ok which imo points to a bit of a design fault with the drip tray heater (which is a continuation of the evaporator heater) not melting all the ice properly during the defrost cycle and over a period of time enough ice builds up and blocks the vent. 🙂

😕 Hi indespoint i have a question. When you say the thermistor is not replaceble is it because it is moulded in and what if it IS faulty, changing the board won’t cure the fault will it? I’m only curious to learn because i’ve come accross faults with F/freezers with moulded in ntc’s (proline and ocean) and changed the board with no joy and basicly its a throw away job.

ParticipantRe: Repairer’s right to charge for not fixing machine?
🙂 In this situation i personally would only charge for diagnosing the fault which he eventually found and the customer did not want to go ahead with the repair. In some instances ive explained to the customer that it could be one of two things and we could try the cheapest option first but if that dosn’t work and they don’t want to go any further then they still pay but its made clear at the start.

Its no scam. Fault location is usually the most time consuming part of the repair and the customer is paying for your expertise and professional guidance.
Your time is worth money, don’t give it away.
Greg🙂
I totaly agree, diagnosing the fault is the bulk of the job once thats done rectifiying it i.e replacing a part is normaly the easy bit.
