If the timer has a fault you will generally see burning across the tracks of the PCB sticking out of the timer. If it’s not burnt, it’s usually ok. We’ve had quite a few of these boards in for repair with blown tracks as a result of interlock shorts, especially the Mk3 WD10/12 (marked FULL0028 on the board). One advantage of using our services is that we would replace your blown board a second time for £4+vat (includes new eprom and postage) AND try and give you a pointer to the cause. Chris, just what I said a few weeks back ! Those brilliant H/P 95 series. I was surprised at the response from you engineers saying that they were rubbish. Maybe it’s because I only see the electrical side of machines in terms of reliability – the timers were strong (OK they did melt sometimes) and the mods were unbreakable. Tony EMW

Revolving control knob (intermittent) is usually a slave timer fault – not the board. If the fault happens absolutely every time, then it would then be a board fault. Hoover engineers are changing quite a few of these slave timers right now. Tony@EMW

Now Indesit own Hotpoint, they could bring back the brilliant Hotpoint 95 series (9520 etc) or at least put a new facia on it. Those 904/2199/04 timers and 904/2233/02 modules certainly outlasted anything produced today. It’s an unfortunate fact that water, steam & general dampness just don’t mix well with electronic boards – hence all the horrible problems with Indesit W103 etc. Matters are made worse when manufacturers design boards with 1mm keeping 240volts seperated – it’s only a matter of time before the tracks start to burn and blow the board. Modern boards as we all know have eproms (memory devices) fitted. If there is a mains surge, lightening or just an electrically noisy motor, these eproms and other chips on the board can get corrupted. Older machines have simpler modules which were far more resiliant to any kind of external influence. All the more reason when you engineers out there come across someone with one of those elederly Hotpoints or even Hoover Logics that you should convince the customer that it’s certainly well worth their while keeping it going ! (our timers are still £29.90 and mods £15 ! ) It’s worth remembering that Indesit / Ariston W103 variants MUST have a dry well ventilated kitchen. Keep them away from tumble dryers, cookers and outbuildings. Tony EMW Electronics

Try tightening each pin in all the edge connectors on the timer/mod with a stanley blade. It only takes one loose one to give both these faults. Tony EMW

It’s a classic fault on these. The interlock shorts and damages the board (not always visible damage). You need a new interlock and board. Send it to us and we will test/repair same-day for £34.90+vat inc return post. Tony http://www.emwelec.co.uk

Email me your address ( to tony@emwelec.co.uk ) and I will send you our booklet which will help you identify these boards. There are quite a few versions and of course they all use different eproms. I have spent a huge amount of time researching these boards and if you are ever near our factory in Mansfield, Notts then you are welcome to come along and see how we test these boards. We don’t just sell the boards – I try and give an idea as to why each board fails and what precautions to take before fitting another. Interestingly – only about 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the boards sent for repair to us are actually faulty. Thankfully we only charge £4+vat if no fault is found (inc return first class post !) and return the board with an A4 sheet to help you go on and find what else could be causing the fault.

This ‘door light flashing’ is the most common fault on these boards, usually caused by a shorting interlock. You need to change the interlock AND the board. Merely resoldering the blown track will not make these boards work. We stock them at £34.90 + vat. If you accidently blow it again, we repair for second time for £4 + vat. We need to know model number and the number of option buttons (2,3,4 or 5) Tony EMW 01623 647537

If you have the number from your old timer then we can supply a recon one instantly by first class post. Don’t forget we talk timers and modules all day long so we usually send the correct one AND we will take it back for a £4.70 handling charge even if it’s been fitted & working for 3 weeks. AND we guarantee them for 12 months just like a new one. AND we can often supply the matching module for just £5 extra if you fit the timer and module together. AND we offer technical advice if the parts don’t fix the problem. New One ? Let’s face it, wholesale suppliers just don’t understand them and don’t offer any backup. Tony. EMW 01623 647537

The fact that it’s out in a freezing shed could be the very reason the timer is aborting. These machines only like warm well ventilated kitchens (even then they’re fussy). Damp on the board is bad news – tell them to move it indoors !

Possible tacho problem on the motor. Check to see if it is open circuit. If not, then looks like a board fault.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WD63P Washer/Drier
These machines just don’t do boil washes. All the thermister does is delay the progress of the timer – it does not ‘hold’ the timer until it boils. If the water goes into the drum cool or just warm, then it will not get any where near boiling. Earlier Hotpoint timers (9545 etc) had solenoids to hold the timer (wash action continued though) or more basic versions just stopped the timer until the temperature reached a pre-set level (using ordinary on/off stats). It really is surprising given the complexity of the timers in say this WD63P (904/2426/02 timer) including the use of a 28 pin microcontroller, that Hotpoint did not make the heating circuits more intelligent. That is why, on these machines, an open circuit heater will not stop the timer moving on. Still, that’s progress for you. To make matters worse, a common fault with these timers is the tendance to ‘double advance’ where the timer speeds its way through a wash. 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the timers we receive back as exchange units have this problem so beware that ‘good timer’ that you have in a box in your garage – it’s highly likely that it will have this problem (affects 904/2409 series, 904/2411 series, 904/2412 series, 904/2425 series, 904/2426 series & 904/2440 series ). Needless to say we take action to permanently stop this on our reconditioned timers giving them a longer life than new ones.
