It’s like what Sumari said – depends how much you want the job and how much risk you are willing to take.

Profyaffle says he always get paid even right up to the wire. I do get paid but as the deadline looms, you have to wonder if you should remind them of the deadline or wait for them to default before you can start reminding them. It’s kind of boiled down to how much equity I have to tide me over until I get paid and the manpower (the amount of spare time to chase up for payments) – it’s can be challenging for a one man band. I am sure most of you have managed it and had no issues.

In theory I could allow one agent to have 30 days and see how it develops, I would have to check their profile and how they operates first before giving them 30 days invoice. I am liking the 28 days invoice which sounds good compromise.

Does anyone set out the terms and conditions of the invoice? would it be printed on the back of the invoice or simply write down 30 days invoice? Can anyone give me an example on how to put the terms and conditions on the invoice? I use duplicate invoice so I am limited to what I can put on although I wonder if it is acceptable to staple the terms and conditions on to the invoice before handing over to the agents?

I have fixed the problem. Turned out that it was the water valve. The old one gave an open circuit reading and the new one gave a closed circuit reading, at this point I was able to confirm it.

I must point out that the bracket was rather difficult to put on with the waste hose being in the way. To overcome it, file the edges down for the waste pipe so you can slide it in place. Also be warned that the waste hose pipe is very flimsy and are prone to splitting. I found out the hard way, I sealed it up with tape which did the trick. The client was made aware of it and was happy with it.

I checked the dishwasher out, it’s 9 years old, underused by elderly couple.

Water fills, drains ok but no circulation so it is likely circulation motor failure. The program skipped rather quickly. Checked for earth and low insulation – all appears to be correct. Very awkward to work on due to limited space. Cost of repair was not justified as they hardly use it so instead they decided to have a cupboard instead of a new dishwasher.

TBH, I rarely get the chance to replace circulation motor as often it pushes the client into buying new appliance but I do put the offer on the plate so they can take it or leave it.

    Thanks Criscold,

I suspected that too, just feeling it out at the moment before I go to the job. I am not a huge fan of the lux though it is a simple set up but they give me headaches especially integrated slimline ones!

It’s one of those annoying thing init. Besides I was told this morning from my client that the dishwasher is 7 years old. She took comfort that it lasted her well. I reserve judgment.

so it’s for the scrap man then or my mates to use to weld on the car.

I have not given a close inspection but the symptoms are fairly common, it was described with top arm not rotating, it is pumping water about but not via the top so I guess it is the flow dial thingy on top of the heater unit as I have come across few cases like this before. It is all part of the heater unit.

The previous owner was set on a new machine so repair the dishwasher fell on deaf ears.

    Re: Hoover HNL662

When I checked it out, it was quite comical when the machine starts spinning with clothing inside it, it did not make any banging noise as it was described on the original spec for the job,

In fact it was more vibrating rather than banging. It vibrates so much that everything in the kitchen that have items on the shelves or anywhere that is not bolted down rattled off.

The machine was standing on the floorboards and the vibrations travelled throughout the kitchen. It was a 1930’s house with all original features.

I checked for drum play, belt condition, etc, nothing there to indicate it’s worn apart from the suspension feels rather soft on one side compared to the other. In my own opinion, I never liked machine that have 1600 rpm for spin cycle as it gives me more problems than it worth. The machine is not built for that kind of spin more like it was borderline. I’ll tolerate the 1400 rpm but nothing more.

The client did me a favour by buying a new machine with lower spin speed of 1200 rpm. Like I said, I’ll never know what is really causing the problem. I have not had the pleasure to carry out autopsy on the machine. I will be having new suspension as spares, so if anyone out there would like it, then ping me with an offer!

Fortunately for me, the client did not want to wait for the parts, it’s amazing how half a day make a huge difference!

The parts would not arrive till the afternoon, but she want it fixed in the morning. so I said it was not possible as the part would not arrive till the afternoon. She was determined to try to get me to fix the machine in the morning. To cut a long story short, she did not want to wait and decided to plump for a brand new washing machine.

All that to avoid the afternoon repair. I ordered the sodding part for her and I expect it to arrive shortly this afternoon now that I will have to return it and pay the restocking fee! Anyway I supplied and installed a new machine and removed the old machine for disposal. She’s happy now.

To answer your question if it was the spigot, I wouldn’t have a clue. Who knows it might make it way to your shop to be refurbished?

checked front weight and top weight, no change to the banging noise. it vibrates a lot and causing the kitchen items to rattle off the worksurface. it sits on wooden floor.

Client says it been like this over last few days. I suspected it was dampers being the culprit as one side is stiff and the other is weak. Has anyone come across this before? If I am to replace it, how easy is it?

Will I have to put the machine on the side to remove the damper from the base?

    Thank you RocketMan,

I am rather reluctant to take on the repair work but I will do it as it’s work, I sent him a letter of quote and spelt out the implications of carrying out the repair that he may end up with the DW being worse. As it was 9 years old, I think he’s more likely to contact me to supply and fit new dw rather to carry out the repair.

After looking at the hinges on the spare parts website, it does look rather straightforward and with you confirming what’s the work is like, it did put my mind at ease.

This dw is owner occupier, retired couple with grandkids visiting during school holidays. They use the dw during the school holidays so they are not too overly bothered of the condition. I think it was originally used heavily when their children was at home 5 years ago now they all left and came back with grandchildren.

I know what you mean by tenants not taking care of the appliances, landlords can only do so much, they started off with high end appliances when they rented out and finishes off with low end new appliances few years later.

You made it sounds like that it is not worth the time and effort to repair it let alone it is integrated dishwasher along with the fine finishings.

The client would be bemused to see me doing this on her pristine kitchen floor.

Seems easier to get new machine…. To quote Fagin on Oliver! at the end…”I shall be reviewing the situation…”

The wash pump is removed from the bottom and the easiest way is to turn it upside down as most of them will require the 4 bolt/feet to be removed fully to allow removal of the base plate.
Also had the bottom paddle split along the seam which stops enough water going through the holes to turn it.

Do you mean literally turn the dishwasher upside down or just the pump?

I think I know what you mean by the 4 bolts, the screw bolts that hold the tub on to the base so that need to be removed? do i just like lift up the tub to pull out the motor then?

I am not sure what you mean by the bottom paddle split. any chance of pictures?

Re: baumatic bdw13 – bottomspray arm not rotating

I had the unfortunate pleasure to visit this machine. Nice kitchen but shame about the dishwasher. Client says it was not washing properly on the bottom.

With me being Deaf, I can’t hear it well but I used rubber band on the rotating arms, both appears not have moved. lots of water dripping from top. Fills ok, drains ok, lots of humming noise during the wash.

Me thinks weak circulation pump or blockage. But with it being integrated, very reluctant to remove plinth cos client cares more about the floor than washing up. Does any one have diagrams or photos?

can it be changed whilst machine in place from the front or do i need to remove it completely? Judging the forum, it looks as it is a problematic machine, is this right?

    Re: Our friends or Foe?

Do we know what the official line from OFT? I looked at the thread on connect and their roles on selling spares under various brands. I get the feeling that we are not the only one who finds this unfair, I can’t think of any other industry being in the same boat with different manufacturer.

I could be wrong, I got the impression that gas fitters are finding the same issue with their own suppliers.

More to the point, recently I have been getting complaints from customers on the price of new appliances and complains being held to ransom on the cost of repair nevertheless the repair option will trumps over new appliance. Maybe we are winning after all? My thought the competition are being distorted and there’s very little to compare on prices on new appliances.
