ParticipantRe: LG washer
Been to the job, confirmed it’s the bearings failure. slight problem with getting parts for it (out of stock), bearings and seal are not cheap as I thought.
Wondering if it’s worth fixing as it’s 5 years old, how long will it take to do it time wise (2 hours)?. managed to get diagrams of the washer/dryer with fixed drive motor (WD-12126RD). The set up does looks a bit like the early hotpoint washing machine though I admit that I am not overly familar with it as I am more used to the newer ones. Will let you know how I got on…

thanks mate,
found some links just to give me an idea –
http://reviews.ebay.co.uk/LG-Direct-Dri … 0005691539
Is this what is like generally?
Found rear half tubs just like Hotpoint, wondering if this is easier or bite the bullet? Do I need to replace the tub seal and grease up the beariings before putting together?

Like Cornflakes – I am due to visit this washer tomorrow with the description of noisy spin. Most cases usually means bearings failure so I would like to prepare myself for this. One person says it’s a doddle to replace the bearings, I rarely carry out bearing changes most of them I do are rear half tubs.
Am I right in assuming the principles are the same, split the tub, tap the drum/spider out, prise the bearings out and replace with new bearings, etc?
Locklite nuts? Do you mean superglue or debor glue?
Do anyone happen to have diagrams?

ParticipantRe: Indesit IDCE 845s – Condensing Dryer
Yes I did measure it with the wires disconnected. I have done this kind of work many times. All three stats are closed circuits, so none of them are open. Even with the one shot stat is closed at the start and giving me readings when I warmed it up with my hands.
That’s why I am at odds with the dryer.

All the stats works (closed circuits) assuming you meant the three stats on the rear on top of the heater unit.
I noticed you said neutral supply of the module, did you mean the actual module on the side of the dryer? Looks like I may have overlooked. I didn’t think they would but in thermostat by the module, odd place I think unless there’s a reason for it.

So I assume from what you are saying its all working now apart from the water light staying on?The unblocking of the fluff from the channel would normally have given you a not pumping fault rather than a not heating.
Was the water light on before you visited??Im a little confused…..
You are not the only one that is confused! I am saying that its all working now apart from the water light staying on.
I did not check it function before I started as I kind of knew what’s the fault that either is the blockage or heater fault. My assumption was right that it was the blockage. I was told that there were no heat before I started work on it. I cleaned it out and the heat restored to the delight of my client.
I queried about the light with the client – she says it been like that for a long time and did not have any effect. I left it there with the understanding that the light on could mean something else and may lead to another breakdown. She understood and accepted the risk. She concluded that if it breaks down then she will buy a new dryer. I think it was a love and hate relationship with the dryer.
All I am looking for if it is a case of a simple reset or wait until the machine righted itself.

ParticipantRe: Bosch WFO2465gb/01 – spin problem
Been on to the machine and did another test which performed rather well. I did noticed some crackling sound which spring to mind that I need to examine the motor. I found that the carbon brushes were worn also the bearings on the motor sounds very dry as it was making a grinding noise also it smelt burnt. Therefore a new motor is needed. Common problem so I have been told!
The drain pump was on its way out but not significant to the main problem and I replaced the drain pump for good measure.
On the other hand it’s rather awkward to get to the motor and drain pump without having to tilt the machine onto the side. I know that you can remove the front panel to get to the pump and motor but I would have thought Bosch could have made the rear opening wider rather than allowing room just for changing the belt. Thankfully that some of the newer models seems to have addressed these access issues!
Will give you the final result once I have completed the job. Just waiting for a new motor…

I have not checked the motor, I didn’t think it was the motor causing the problem. I can go back to check it. The drum turns well both direction and did spin well on empty load.
I suppose that if the brushes are worn then there would be less power to spin under load. Will let you know how I got on – Thanks nomad Paul

I can assure you that it is draining very well. Fast draining (less than 30 secs) with lovely gurgling sound which indicate a good pumping out pressure.
It drains then spin, it spins ok when empty but with the load, it spins lumpy.

ParticipantRe: Siemens – SE25A090GB/12 – stuck on one min/no heat
Turned out it looks like the board is faulty – the coil componant got loose connection therefore no solder on the the connection – possibly wear n tear?
Will try get it sent away to EMW for repair.

Effin’ drain cleaner! splashed into my eye resulted in a visit to A&E then discharged 2 hours later with drops. Turned out no lasting damage (I hope) just painful swollen eye. Let that be a lesson to all engineers including myself – not to mess about with drain cleaner – just buy a new sodding matrix!
The cleaned matrix had no effect to the heater or whatsoever so it’s kind of pointless.
checked the switch on heater – working
checked the thermo on heater – closed circuit assumed working
Checked insulation resistence – more than 200m ohmstraced back to pcb – found solder came off the board – assumed the culprit to the not heating. Will check on other side of the board to see if it’s not blown, then will attempt to resolder once my eye get better.
All this trouble for my wife!

ParticipantRe: Siemens SE25A090GB/17 – Stuck on 1 min + other issues!
I have the same machine too, it’s my wife’s. I charge her a favourable rate!
the washing performance before it got stuck on 1 min, it was greasy. I used the dishwasher degreaser, the professional type. It doesn’t make any difference – still stuck on 1 min and no heat (although there were a lot of heat on the last wash with the degreaser until I came to use the normal wash afterwards). So I decided to take the machine apart to check the heater, it appears to be fine, gave a reading of 24 ohms so I ruled the heater out.
Checked the matrix, it was crudded up on the bend on the top left corner, flushed it out with boiling water. The tiny pocket on the very top left corner is full of crud, rather tricky to flush it out, so it’s a case of persevering. I thought the first poster was mad to use drain cleaner but it seems to be the only way to get it out…I examined the pipes, it dawned on me that the dishwasher does not drain the water out directly but via the matrix. How daft is that? No wonder it gets crudded up!
I checked the pressure chamber, slight crud but cleaned it out. The salt chamber is dirty though I have used salt but not topped it up recently say 3 weeks. The salt light is on but there are some salt left. I live in a very soft water area. Will let you know how I got on…seems easier to buy a new matrix but sadly not available for this model according to my three suppliers.
PS – Why on earth this dishwasher got a double layer of skin? No wonder why it’s so heavy! Is it for quietness or insulation purposes?

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint – WM51 – metallic noise and not spinning
I wonder if the previous engineer failed to clean out the motor before fitting the new brushes, can it cause the shorting if it was not cleaned out? I do know that failing to clean it can cause arcing.
Just that the very low insulation reading of Zero was bothering me and see if there’s any lessons to be learnt from it. I couldn’t fathom it as I did disconnect the motor multiplug and still get a Zero reading usually if disconnected I would get a different readings.
Having thought more, perhaps the timer unit was faulty all along?
The likely outcome would that be the motor was not cleaned out, causing the poor insulation and caused the timer unit to malfunction by giving poor insulation readings after the motor disconnected?

ParticipantRe: Indesit – WIDL126s – Noisy spin
We are not with D&G, just good old Comet. I know they have a ceiling price before writing the machine off and give us a new one. Just a case of waiting for the price barrier to be broken through….

ParticipantRe: Indesit – WIDL126s – Noisy spin
Been to the job, found the drum was loose along with cracks on the spider. I saved myself from cursing and blood by saying it’s not worth repairing it.
The machine in question is 3 years old, same age and model as mine but mine has 5 years warranty, it broke down 8 times. The client’s machine was the first fault in three years. No justice in it?
Before anyone questioned why I have the same make and model, I wasn’t an engineer 4 years ago! If I had known, we would have not bought it.
