Mike… For one second (For illustration purposes), just remove every JTM Independent agent out of the UK. Do you think 0800Repair could stand on its own 2 feet with the handful of Franchisees and employed engineers without ‘Propping Up’ from JTM / Pacifica? (And yes, even exclude ‘Man in vans’ as they are JTM Agents with a freebie deal).
The answer is no. So quite simply, 0800Repair NEED the Independent engineer to make their business model work, but then will turn around and bin them when the £20K Cheques start coming in area by area, regardless whether it be this year, next year or the year after, end result = Franchisee gets all the work (Apparently)?! Therefore, Indie = Binned!

mikeday0800 wrote:Yes I hear you ade. How many people out there have the dosh to by a franchise anyway.
Banks will put up the money if it meets their Franchise criteria, so no worries there for any strapped for cash entrepreneurs 🙂 That on it’s own says to me that it’s not yet an appetising prospect for people to borrow money to buy in to compared to other Franchises that are available to anyone.
mikeday0800 wrote:You may be correct in what your saying. Logic would suggest you right. But it would take years and years to fill every area in the country.
So some Indies are riding a certain time bomb? As I can guarantee that someone someday that is working for JTM now, will be dropped in the future when a Franchisee has signed a cheque in their area, regardless of working history, work performances etc. After all, there’s a legal document involved, so loyalty etc goes out of the window 🙁
mikeday0800 wrote:Tbh I’m not even sure there are enough guys out the to fill the gaps
I think the same 🙂 So after JTM/0800Repair finish trying to fill the country with Franchisees, then, the Indie becomes valuable again?

I would place a bet that it doesn’t depend on how good Engineer ‘X’ is 8)
0800Repair are trying to build a brand, within a Franchise model. Are they really going to turn down a man with £20K and add to their currently poor Franchise numbers for the sake of the loyal Engineer ‘X’ that has been supporting them and helping them build their brand? Think not butt. It’s business, after all 🙂
My guess is, Engineer ‘X’ would be told… Thanks for your help over ‘X’ Years, but we’ve recruited a Franchise Engineer in your area now, so we have a legal obligation to give him your work. Adios Amigo… Maybe you’d like to stay on as 2nd Tier / Holiday cover / Sickness cover etc?
At least by doing contract work with other companies such as Repaircare, D&G, NESN etc etc etc, you only have to worry about being crap. These said companies will help you if you’re crap, work with you etc until one day, they can’t carry a crap engineer anymore. So yes, they’ll change Service Providers. BUT… The only one to blame is the engineer that was crap! Whereas… 0800Repair will have to (By law apparently) take work away from what could be a top notch, loyal engineer because a Franchise has bought in.
You get where I’m going with this Mike?
0800Repair do not only damage Independent repairers by mass advertising for chargeable work, but IMO they are also a threat to every JTM Agent they have on their books?! As some, or rather a lot of JTM Agents would probably suffer if a Franchisee bought in to their area due to work volume losses. Unless of course, special deals are done for special people 😉

Mike… If it’s working for you, then genuinely… Happy days! I’ll get a tin out of the fridge with ya pal 🙂
But as per my post above, what happens to Engineer ‘X’?

One does wonder what happens to Engineer ‘X’ that has served an area for years, then an Aircraft Cleaner or Tree Surgeon etc is made redundant and wants to spend their money on a 0800Repair Franchise? After the guys few weeks training, does Engineer ‘X’ get binned? As the area is now covered by a Franchisee?
(And before MikeDay comes back with new blood etc, I totally agree, but to take up to £20K off a man with no experience is a bit sad IMO. If 0800Repair were true to the cause, they’d tell them to go get a few years experience and re-apply)! There again, anyone with half a head and up to £20K to spare, wouldn’t spend it on getting a job with no Annual Leave entitlement or sick pay!
cliveaitken wrote:I hope said shop owner is happy knowing that the guy will lose his job just before christmas. If times ain’t hard enough!!! Stinks of a set up!!!!!
A set up? How on earth could anyone track an 0800Repair Franchisee to a street, then set up a photo shoot? Jesus don’t be so daft man!
It looks quite simple to me. A member of the public approached the guy as he was blocking a T Junction whilst on the phone and Mr 0800 lost his patience! Would he have given the ‘Vick’ to a coppa if being asked to move away from the junction? I doubt it!

Nothing to do with the above, but I’ve just shown my office manager the ‘0800 Salute’ picture. As soon as his head stopped shaking back and fore in a ‘No’ motion saying how shameful that is on the brand, he looked closer and asked…
‘What the hell is that on his van’…!
Made me chuckle, simple things n all a 🙂

Ummmm, sorry boss, but I was greeted by a member of the public so I kept to the criteria of the 0800Repair Engineer ‘Supremeness‘ but it went wrong. My middle finger developed a spasm as I was trying to wave hello!
There aint no excuse! That’s pure disrespect and aggressive behaviour to the person that took that photo, end of.
I wouldn’t want to be that person in the photo that’s for sure. As a whooping by someone who doesn’t employ you might be hard to take 🙂

It’s like the old Mastercard advert… Money can buy you a Franchise, but can’t buy you manners!
Which is what shocks me about that photo. It’s plainly clear that 0800Repair interviewers need training too! As they ‘Apparently’ reject 90{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of applicants. Is this guy an 0800Repair Franchisee? Or a ‘Man in a van’ (AKA a JTM Agent in a free van) as Mikeday0800 likes to call them? Because if he’s a Franchisee, doing that to a member of the public in a sign written van is doing 0800Repair no favours!

Ok, when I get the letter, I’ll post it here before I reply to ensure we get the lack of Tech Info issue in.
I’m not sure what’s going on TBH, but when he phoned me, he was as nice as a cupcake with a hidden M16 inside it.
Basically, he’s got a major issue with said company!

Aggressive language?
Martin… I type as I talk. Anyone that knows me personally (As you do), should read what I say as me talking. It’s not ‘Aggressive’, it’s simply fu**ing passion.
As for your opinions, I really don’t really give a sh1t what you say. In my books, you’re a ‘Has been’ that has nothing better to do than stir the pot in subjects that affect us that are currently trying to keep our businesses growing.
