Stainless steel if its any good should not attract magnets, only poor quality stainless will attract magnets.

If compressor is not starting and disc looks ok then most likely compressor is at fault. Thermostat is either on or off,it has no in between action. So looks as if compressor needs replacing, expensive job.

You need to replace the whole unit that the disc is in , disc not avaliable as a seperate item.It is a solid state relay, when it gets hot its electrical properties change. Do not run compressor with out it. It works as a relay for the start windings of the motor. If surfaces of disc are burnt this will cause compressor to fail to start and trip on the overload device .

There should be at the bottom of evaporator plate 2 screws which hold a small plate behind the evaporator . Undo screws and release thermostat capillary tube (there is most likely a loop of capillary there)then straighten out the loop and pull capillary out . Be careful when installing new thermostat do not damage capillary tube by kinking or cutting.

If you switch compressor off you must leave it for at least 10 mins before switching back on or compressor will stall ,and could be damaged.

Make sure you only use dishwasher salt do not use table or cooking salt or you will have big problems.
