ParticipantRe: Hotpoint Aquarius very noisy on spin, have a listen!
A long pause of silence! ” what is a good brand to buy as we wont be having another Hotpoint! ” As a washer dryer there isn`t one and I don`t rate Bosch / Neff / or Siemens contraptions now either though once I did, 20 years ago. If you just wanted a washing machine an entry level Beko is ok: cheap to buy, expendable should the worse happen, inexpensive parts, easy to fix brush motor. Whatever you do in my opinion do not buy anything or any make with an inverter motor ( even though your machine is one of these ) as the pcb commonly fails whether part of the motor ( usually an Askoll make hidden under its motor`s plastic cover as per more adventurous Beko and some Whirlpools / Maytags ) or not as in the case of Bosch`s effort as a separate pcb which is also known failure point.
The weight problem on your Hotpoint. Might be a little late now but I have had poor success with the front weight replacement on these Hotpoint creations as usually the lugs are usually too worn. You could, which I have not tried yet, is to use ” no more nails ” glue on the plastic lugs and behind the lugs too as well of course as the original self tapping screws. It either is going to work or not; simple as that otherwise as pointed out by some else you are into new expensive tank territory: don`t go there you`ll regret it!!
All the best.

ParticipantRe: noisy drum – Bosch Exxcel 8
A fractured ball bearing rivet cage possibily and perhaps rusted too. Not motor bearings and does not sound like a bra wire to me. Any disaster can happen even at 3.5 years old, Bosch or otherwise.

ParticipantRe: Siemens XLM1400 very loud knocking noises.
Hopefully it is the suspension problem but I suspect it isn`t / will not be. Could easily be a spider crack near the hub or not a crack as such but where the steel shaft joins the alloy spider- the steel and alloy rot at that point; had both several times. Doing the woggle the drum test by hand will often prove to be inconclusive its NOT like your typical Hotpoint WM57 spider fracture on these things where it is obvious. Beware of even doing the suspension fix because if you have not got a spider or bearing problem, i.e. I`m wrong! I very soon may be proved to be right! You`d be better off taking the original legs to 2 separate pieces – which they will disassemble- and replacing the internal worn friction pads by stuffing the original suspension legs with greased cotton wool to at least try that first ( it does work I can assure you ) then take it from there – so long as there is tension between the top part of the bottom suspension leg and the bottom plastic bit the machine should be fine in spin; least pro tem to prove a point.
Wish you all the best of luck.1totalshambles
ParticipantRe: Bosch washing machine burning smell inside drum
Martin it was a WVTI2840GB/03. Only thing I could think off is that the steel shaft was loose in the aluminium spider; didn`t feel loose though!

Considering the family circumstances a very wise decision. All the best.

Don`t know BUT the most common mess up with the whole series was the l/h/side fill chamber / inlet valve problem. The machine fills ok does its thing then pumps out as it should but then will not refill. You might hear a faint buzz / hum in the background when it goofs up whioch will be or could be the valve .The side chamber gets full up of rubbish = grease food debris which blocks up the narrow chamber channels causing the inlet valve to go in to an inconsistant over fill mode so it shuts off the valve by air pressure. On this valve there should be a thin pipe that is about 6 to 8″ long, If you remove this pipe, turn off the tap and release the head pressure to the valve too ( by unscrewing the inlet hose off the valve ) and refit both may well cure the problem very temporarily, if it does it makes a point! The whole side chamber based on one of many pnc/product codes for your model which you do not state could be 911847004/00 and if so the part number is 152464036, alas, it isn`t cheap!

Doubt the 3d sensor is it self playing up. More likely sensing your drum bearing issue because the drum is off key. Officially you would have to buy a new half tank with bearings factory pre fitted at 300 quid unless you can get a bankrupt stock one – a trade growth area (!) – one off Ebay ( Ye Gods which idiot thinks up these prices? ). But you could dismantle the machine – 2-3 hours of fun and games by the look of things – and knock out the offending bearings which will be common sizes and will not be expensive the problem MIGHT be the oil seal size which luckily should have the sizes marked on it. Oil seal less than 7 quid with any luck from bearing suppliers. try to avoid damaging the tank seal though you should really change it too otherwise it might leak and then you`ll just have to dismantle it all again; waste of a Sunday!. If the drum is really wobbly ( or perhaps you also have a cracked drum spider which is common ) as things stand presently it could be all too horribly late and no-doubt the drum bearing shaft will be zapped too as the front bearing goes in to shrapnel mode in which case don`t bother trying to repair it and wasting your time and spons.

ParticipantRe: AEG ‘clonking’ noise
The dispenser flap not fully flipping up is pretty common especially if the basket does not lock properly at the back when loaded and pushed backwards to mate up with the conveyor pipe. The force of the water then pushes the basket forward on its wheels fouling the dispenser flap which could be why it takes several minutes for the clocking noise to happen. In theory without any cups and therefore without any weight in the top bsk it should start to make the clonking noise sooner that would be the case if the bsk is fully loaded. Check black conveyor seal part 1523119012 as based on the version of the pnc number 91153911400, you only stated the model number. Only other thing it could be is a worn out floppy top wash blade catching the underside of the basket or that the jet spay holes are part blocked up sending the w/blade out of balance as it hacks around giving the same effect.

ParticipantRe: How to avoid plastic?
so the s/s tank that is set in to a plastic base leaks because it warps as the s/s tank warps the plastic due to heat transfer ( would have thought Bosch would have realised this in the design ), there is a seal but they are useless. I got around this problem with silicon sealant rather than buying yet again another appliance: Turn power off, remove the r/h/side metal side and you should notice where the metal tank joins the plastic base there is often a strengthening / suppose anti warping length piece of plastic that doesn`t work, remove this and clean away as much crap as possible and the run a bead of s/sealant right along and ftll the gap. Do the same for the rear and do your best for the corners. L/h/s is more tricky because of the water chamber is in the way plus the pressure switch unit but just do the best you can with you sealant gun. Allow everything to dry and set and this should work. One less piece of tosh for land fill!

ParticipantRe: Bosch washing machine burning smell inside drum
Had a look alike Bosch with EXACTLY the same problem last week (7/1/18 ). Since I had time on my hands I dismantled it and this bit is interesting. Although the drum spider was corroded it was NOT cracked. So how come the door seal got friction burned by the drum if the drum can`t drop, does not make any sense unless the spider is bending under load as a result of it being corroded.

ParticipantRe: AEG Lavamat Drying Heat/Fan Intermittent
“I also noticed the dryer fan motor smells like it’s running hot. Could that cause the problem ?”
Yes, but not common. UNLESS The little belt driven ventilator fan unit little bearing is well known to go noisy and seize and / or warpage of the fan`s impellor is common but then it would be noisy which is not mentioned…..unless it is seized solid of course!1totalshambles
ParticipantRe: Carbon Brushes for Luxor LW05S Washing machine
With a serial number as you have your machine should be Turkish rather than a Chinese one. The motor could be a Selini made motor and part number for selini motor brushes is, pattern part number CAR79 or under the Brandt label 52X5258. Should I be wrong and you machine is Chinese ( PRC ) they usually have orange/red brush holders same brushes as an Indesit as per C00196539. Look the numbers up to match up you brushes to what you have and watch out for the angle cut at the end of the brushes just in case. Info pretty sparse on these machines.

Well if it spins it won`t be the motor brushes unless absolute boarder line running on the brush dust but I`d have a look all the same as you say. The carbon bit when new is about 2″ long.

ParticipantRe: John Lewis JLWM1202 fill stops then drains and switches
What happens if you just set the machine on spin? Have you seen the drum go round in your experiments? Have you checked the motor brushes because on those things ( and many other makes out there ) a lot of stuff is wired through the motor and if the brushes are a gonna strange things will happen and what you describe is one of `em.
