    Re: Top Loading Dishwasher?

I remember looking round a big electrical shop in Lille a couple of years ago and being surprised that just about all the washing machines that they sold were top loaders. Probably because the French tend to live in small flats and need to squeeze these things in.

My French is very rough but I see what appears to be half a dozen or so top loading washer dryers on
    http://www.darty.com/webapp/wcs/stores/ … reId=10001

or for a more inventive solution (which I don’t think I have ever seen here)
    http://www.darty.com/webapp/wcs/stores/ … oryDisplay

shows two what appear to be combined cooker/dishwasher with the dishwasher in place of the oven.

    Re: Whirlpool ADP4500 dead

The switch seems OK so I guess that all that it can be is the control board. Even worse there seems to be nothing visibly wrong on there so the chances are that the controller chip or some other computerised component has been zapped. I read in the archives that in some cases it is possible to repair then board rather than replacing it entirely. Does this only apply to failures due to burnt out resistors and dry joints?

    Thanks again for your help.

pwhit, don’t give up on your board until you check the out of balance switch. On my gwl10 it is under the main controller. I have been “nursing” mine along for the last few months. A repair man tried to tell me that my board was fried and would cost $300us to replace. Inside the control cover I found the “rosetta stone” of diagnostic codes and discovered that
00101 011 means out of balance switch fault. The OOB can come out of it’s harness/clips or (what mine is doing) become stuck in an “permanently” activated/or pressed position. I can usually fiddle with it and it will function again. Now I need to find a new switch before this one fails for good.

Re: “knocking noises” from Whirlpool dishwasher pu

The noise IS from the PUMP, I have taken the side panel off and the pump shakes as it knocks/splutters. (I have previously tried it without the spray arms)

The model number is 8542 347 15810, can anyone tell me the nearest “normal” model number eg ADGxxx

Re: help, hob igniter switch broken and permanently on!!

    Hi

The hob electrics should be on its own plug that would normally be behind the oven or in the cupboard next to it,the only option is to turn the electric off to the hob or replace the ignition unit, bearing in mind if you go for the turning off option you will need to repair the hob normally before you stop renting unless you have a understanding landord that is.

Re: Want to buy a washer/dryer

Cheers to both Don and Martin.

I have seen the Zanussi 1270 for £305 online. However I have seen the Zanussi ZWD1680 for £385, which has better energy efficiency and claims to be about 20dB quiter in operation. The flat has an open kitchen/living room affair so the volume would be quite important. Do you set much faith in these measurements? £80 doesn’t seem like too bad an increase for better green credentials and a quiet life?

Ah, you found me out Martin!

Thanks for the replies though. I will check out the Zanussi and Bosch ranges. Have always fancied Miele but boy they really do charge, don’t they?

    Thanks again

    Re: Top Loading Dishwasher?

Cheers Clyde. I could get a top loading washer but I really want a washer/dryer and I haven’t really managed to find one. Well I have but I think it is only a centrifugal dryer. Without being in the property I am not sure how far I would have to lean over and I have a bad back, so this could be a problem if the washer dryer was ‘deep’. I might have another look though!

Zanussi sounds like it might be a good solution, its only me and the missus. I just want to have somewhere to wash a few plates, glasses and cutlery. Damn I hate washing cutlery!!!
