KeymasterRe: A Word Of Thanks…
Yeah…thanks for coming and listening and joining in the debates, where ever the location.
We here at UKW take a lot away from a meeting like this. What you say matters and makes a difference, its nice to say it in person, face to face for a change.
Its also an opportunity to bring you into the frame as we did with Sean, at short notice I think he did a grand job (with his presentation)…well done mate.

KeymasterRe: Purchasing Direct
I would assume that these manufacturers have an interest in protecting the markets they already have and will not sell direct to you. Can you imagine the reprocussions at say Dixons if hotpoint were to sell direct.
Making no profit from an appliance sale is usual for an independent, we know, at the moment we have to live with it but there is another way….and its coming.

KeymasterRe: Mystery problem – Smeg d/w
Thanks for your responses. I now know where to look to find the model number!!
However, my wife was much more tenacious than me, and having agressively cleaned/degunked the various filters & run the machine empty a couple of times, it’s a happy bunny again.
Thanks for the support, much appreciated. Cool website!

KeymasterRe: Putting a Freezer in the shed
lets try to clear this up….
A fridge cools to around 4 degrees. So when the ambient temperature is down below that the stat is never going to switch on the compressor, when it does the heat exchanger on the back will lose to much heat and therefore the equation of boyles law is completely wrong ,when it counts.
So a fridge freezer will not work and will defrost the freezer in cold weather, A freezer also will be affected, so its wrong to say it will work. Remember that the system has been designed to run in an ambient of around 20 degrees, the condensor will exchange too much heat with the ambient temperature and the delivery tube will deliver a gas at the wrong pressure, completly ruining the desin of the system. Expect a freezer that runs at -18 to rise to -13 in cold ambients. The knock on is that this causes extra heat in the oil of the compressor which in R134a systems is bad and is also proving to be so in R600a to. The absorption of gas into the oil is increased in such conditions and leads to blockages and early failure of compressors.
Sorry its a long answer…but avoid a fridge or freezer in a cold ambient if the appliance is designed to sit in side a house.

KeymasterRe: Bosch SGS6302GB/12 – dead as a Dodo?
Thinking about it again – it’s actually more likely to be the main switch I guess as a heater fault would give some sort of error message? I don’t get any lights or error messages so I’m thinking main switch or control board problem?
Not sure if it’s co-incedence but we did have a power interuption the day before – DW was off but there could have been a spike when power came back on….I guess it’s possible that could have fushed something.admin
KeymasterRe: Putting a Freezer in the shed
Afraid you’ll have problems – some appliances will work down to 10 °C(type s) but most will only work down to 16°C(type N). I’d be surprised if those fridegs etc in a shed are actually working properly .

KeymasterRe: hopoint wd865a
Sunday PM, we’ve had this model for almost a month now (£384 inc. del. from tribaluk 😀 (27 days to delivery plus 6 calls totalling 1hr 20min 🙄 )) and it’s been gr8, it actually does what it says in the brochure. Well almost, just two negatives we’ve found so far.
1: The smart setting that lets you pick how dry you want your clothes to be (iron, hanger or cupboard) is not enough, but you can always go manual and add an hour or so to finish off.
2: Tonight I came home to an error message, F-03, I don’t know what this means yet but the machine is locked and in-operable 😯 . I will be contacting Hotpoint in the morning.
