I’ve always viewed the plumbing trade as one where they don’t compete to cut each throats.
The electrical trade will price to win a job at any cost/loss and that’s half the reason I got out of it.
This industry any tom dick or harry can start tomorrow and can go around all day and not have to complete a single repair and get paid his travel. (Nice work for any unskilled person to fall into).
I with my formal training as an electrician and in appliance repair I consider myself to be at the pointy end of the appliance industry spectrum
For this reason I will not prostitute myself with low charges and always attempt to lead the industry with the highest rates. Anybody who is at the lowest end of the spectrum I refer the shit work to as it keeps them busy and not competing with me on the cream work which I keep to myself
I often have people asking for help and I simply will not go and repair a machine that somebody else has already worked on.
Nor will I work for real estate agents who come begging, because they don’t pay on that day or any day in the near future.
We don’t have work providers as you do who surely are only middle men creaming off you.
Divide and conquer is their best strategy.

And then there’s DASA who’s PRINCIPAL AIM includes “to offer service” “at reasonable cost to the customer“.
What does or can that mean.
To me it’s a load of CODSWALLOP!!

I feel I should post the following TRADE ONLY forums (but being an outsider I will leave that to UK boys)

    “What is the best strategy”
    “Standard conditions of contract”
“My charges out rates” (To encourage others to see what they’re missing out on)
“How to bring everyone into the fold and educate the cowboys”
“Should we set up our own Network”

    and maybe public forums:

    “Cowboys named here”

    Time to cut the crap?

yes but if we dont do there is some one who will do it

Does the UK impose any recycling requirements on you guys

    i.e.

Cost added onto new product that is refunded when returned to recycling centre

Legal obligations on you to pick up old replaced machines at time of new machine installation

    and is there a:

Worthwhile market in scavenged secondhand parts

    Worthwhile market in reconditioned appliances

all as mooted on the paper I read

Was doing some research on whitegoods lifecycles and a Government 2001 paper (being Dept. of Environment) encourages the reduction of waste by the regular servicing and maintenance of appliances to extend their life.

They’re also talking about the manufacturer/importer adopting a product based service approach where the customer pays per use, the manufacturer/importer retains ownership, regularly servicing to extend life, product captured for recycling, parts re-used in new and old machines, increased acceptance 2nd hand goods.

    Lifecycles Averages
    Fridge 10-25yrs :rotl:
    Freezer 20+ yrs :rotl:
    Dishwasher 10-20yrs :rotl:
    Washing Machine 5-15yrs :rotl:
    Electric cookers 15-20yrs :rotl:
    Microwave ovens 5-15+yrs :rotl:
    Hot water heaters 5-30yrs :rotl:
    Air conditioners 20yrs :rotl:

Have we progressed in the 4yrs since written…. HA HA HA

So according to a/the government you should’nt feel guilty about going around to dust, polish, test, sit, wait (and this is just your crystal ball whilst you sit and have a cup of tea ) as your an all seeing, all doing guru who can see that a particular component that looks perfectly healthy one day is sure to break down tomorrow and no your not going to be stung for over servicing and your work provider is going to pay without question.

    Famous quote
“The trouble with Public servants is they don’t eat their young”

Two bone weary public servants were working their little hearts and souls out. Their department was just too busy for staff to be able take flex. But there had to be a way…
One of the two public servants suddenly lifted his head. “I know how to get some time off work” the man whispered.
    “How?” asked the second worker.
Instead of answering, the man quickly looked around. No sign of his Director. He jumped up on his desk, kicked out a couple of ceiling tiles and hoisted himself up. “Look!” he hissed, then swinging his legs over a metal pipe, hung upside down.
Within seconds, the Director emerged from the Branch Head’s office at the far end of the floor. He saw the worker hanging from the ceiling, and asked him what on earth he thought he was doing.
“I’m a light bulb” answered the public servant.
“I think you need some time off,” barked the Director. “Get out of here – that’s an order – and I don’t want to see you back here for at least another two days! You understand me?”
“Yes sir”, the public servant answered meekly, then jumped down, logged off his computer and left.
The second worker was hot on his heels.
“Where do you think you’re going?” the boss asked.
“Home,” he said lightly. “I can’t work in the dark.”

A man walks into a bar in Antartica with a smallish dog and sits at the rail.

The bartender hurries over and tells him that the dog will have to go!

The man replies that this is no ordinary dog! No, this is a talking dog.

The bartender is about to throw both of them out when the dog says, “I just want a damn beer! Who do I have to kill to get a fricken beer around here?”

The bartender is momentarily flustered but then he says, “Man, you are great ventriloquist but as I said I don’t serve dogs!”

The man says, “Tell you what buddy, put yer money where yer mouth is. I’ll go to the can and we’ll both put up 10 bucks. If the dog don’t talk to ya you keep the money and we’ll leave.”

Both men slap 10 bucks on the bar and our hero waddles off to the bathroom.

The bartender stares at the dog for a minute and then the dog says, “Well am I gonna get my beer numbnuts?” The shocked bartender turns around to get the beer but when he turns back the dog is gone!

A few minutes later the guy comes out of the bathroom and see his dog is missing! “Where is my dog!?!?!?!” The bartender shrugs and the man rushes out to find his valuable dog.

He is searching frantically and finally he spots the dog way up at the end up dead end alley. When he gets closer he sees that the dog is grinding away behind a very bored looking but huge PENGUIN!

The man says ” Rex! What the hell are you doing? You NEVER did this before!”
And the dog says, “well I never had 20 bucks before.”

Electronics, moisture and a constant voltage (albeit low voltage) causes corrosion of these boards.

A stiff nylon brush where the corrosion is and a spray with a WD40 style product (I prefer Inox) can resurrect the board.

The trick with any electronic board in a damp situation is:

1/. Turn off at the wall after each use

    2/. Avoid steam.

3/. Fit a surge divertor as used on computer power plugs

4/. Ensure touch pad is not cracked

5/. Heat the room if condensation (steam) is likely to occur

Special because it may look like every other switch of that ilk, however its a “low force” microswitch.

I’ve sent you the diagnostics which will help test that switch (out of balance switch)

    Nah…

Thats the losses over the next 5 years including insurance charges foregone, chargeable repairs foregone, spare parts not sold, etc etc.

The actual capital loss $1000 give or take a few dollars

Sounds like you may have got water on the electronics from the leaking hose as all of these conditions are not normal.

I’d be running a heater on the electronics whilst unplugged to dry them out and then trying again.

The most likely replacement would be the top (display) module at approx $150 plus installation.

I’m at a loss to understand how you replaced the hose only from the top.

Have you replaced with a genuine hose?

Make sure you get the EXACT replacement module.

    F&P on 1300 650 590 (24hrs) will send you a module. (99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} are reconditioned)
