That is a bit vague… do you mean that every so often it will fill a little more.. or is it that the water inlet continues whilst washing?

Is the smell an electrical type smell or a plastic type smell.. it could be coming from the base of the machine and rising up inside the side panels to the top.

I know this sounds stupid but, give it a gentle tap, and I do mean gentle, in-between where the door catch and the row of six buttons are… If it starts when you tap it, you may have a sticky relay on a pcb.

I would check the Motor brushes… I had the same report from a lady in Chester a few days ago and thought exactly the same as you… When I got there it was purely motor brushes on their last legs, making an intermittent connection they where causing the drum to hit the side of the machine.
You can check for movement in the inner drum and noise level on spinning by hand to assess the state of the bearings.

The drum you are looking for has a part number 3484159615 and at best is around £250 to buy.
Other machines are available with split drums but it depends on your budget.

Make sure the D/W is level and not tilted forward. I have had that problem a couple of times although normally with the more common brands.

I’ll not change the pump yet in case it was something else, but the good thing is (if the pump stops again) the water seems to build up in the recess at the back and then, as it gets too high, finds its way past the air cooler and drips out the front of the machine.[
This is the reason I asked you to look for a split in the pipe, as if their is a split then the pump will not have enough force behind it to pump the water up the tube to the top and likewise, if there is a slit then the water will escape the pipe and drain down into the area of the pump.
I had a look at the part Condensed water container / water tray but there’s no image.
The Condensed water container / water tray is the large pullout drawer at the top left of your appliance into which your waste water flows.

If there is no split, and the water is managing to get to the water tray then there is also the question ‘How often do you empty the tray, or do you not?’. If you have the appliance on permanent drain, did you remember to empty the water tray before moving the appliance (has the water come from here)?

Ok.. This is a condenser dryer is it not… with flooding into the base… determining that the pump (263297) is actually working has been done… Maybe the pump was working all the time and the flooding was coming from elsewhere.. hence, as a follow-up, check for splits or cracks in the hose (094041) connecting the pump to the condensed water container (289544)(Water tray) which would in effect, even though the pump is operable, fill the base with water.
Understand now?

Does this one not have a water tray then?

It wont be the float switch as you are getting operation of the pump already.. if the float was not working you would have either no operation or permanent operation of the pump.
Check the pipes from the pump to the integrated water vessel for cracks.

I have no experience of that particular model, but that is the way that condenser dryers normally work.
By the sounds of what you are describing, the area where the water is collecting is either the area from which it is pumped.. or .. the area where it drains into a pumping area.
Also, can you hear the pump running? if it is not pumping then no pump would also cause this to happen.
