ParticipantRe: Admiral/Maytag GC2227SDFB American fridge freezer
Quick update on this one. Turned out to be the heater within the ice-maker. Didn’t even know it had one! Left it disconnected and the fridge all works a treat. Having the wiring diagram does help though. Found it tucked away inside the controls box. I must say though, having shyed away from these before, that there is not a lot to them really, and that they come apart remarkably easy. All you need is a 1/4″ socket!
Cheers,
Dave

Please, sound as patronising as you like! As I said, I aint no expert. However, I’m pretty sure they’re both ok. Disconnected them in turn and tested them directly – both ok. Earth leakage still exists when they are disconnected as well. As far as I can tell, the fault lies somewhere between where the wiring goes up into the bowels near the compressor, to where it enters the fridge cabinet at the controls. So, possible wiring, but how the hell do you access it?
Thanks for the reply,,

Used this myself. Works a treat. Only thing is, as you say, the carbon dust. Makes a bit of a mess and try to avoid breathing it in. Connect also do a spray duster.

Try the start capacitor for the circulation pump.

From what I can find, rooting through my old stuff, it’s a dual circuit(?) Diamond H 33ER3HT, Belling Pt no STV082617116. Alternatives are Connect’s ELE4110 or Hpt C00225573. Probably got one somewhere if you’re stuck.

Thanks Bob, that’s what I thought. Still a bit of a crock though isn’t it?

ParticipantRe: Smeg A2 circuit breaker question
Thanks Clive, that’s what I was thinking. Reason I asked was that this customer had a service contract with Scottish Gas and they sent an “electrical guy” to have a look at a problem. He took one look at the 32A circuit breaker that was fitted, and refused to touch the cooker until an electrician had changed it for a 20A one (at the customer’s expense). Subsequently, the cb kept tripping. They also messed up the cooker big time, claimed that the parts were unavailable (outright lie) and eventually wrote off the cooker. The money (Comet voucher) that they gave him was a fraction of the replacement cost of a Smeg A2. That’s when he called me. Managed to sort it at reasonable cost, but I believe that the cb need changing for a bigger one.

Yes, I’ve had this before. New selector usually sorts it.

I think the drain filter would be a good place to start. Check your instruction manual for how to do it.

Totally agree, Jim. Watched him on football focus yesterday with him and Gary Mcallister reminiscing about Leeds Utd’s 1992 champonship winning team. Was on great form. Shocking waste.

Hi Mark,
I don’t think it has an alternating valve. I tried another pcb that I had managed to obtain and it’s still the same.AMS

Hi Subs,
I’m needing one of these. The picture on Masterpart’s site looks a bit different. Did yours fit ok?
