I know some may use their cookers more this time of year but in no way can that alone affect the amount of cookers I’ve been called to recently. I agree with funky that these fault have been on going for months but they decide at the last minute to get it repaired. I got called to one this week with a faulty selector switch that she says had been faulty for ages, oh can you get it done by the weekend as I’ve a big dinner party, this was on the Wednesday. Some choice words muttered under my breath

Do you hear the loud click when spin is selected, brake may need adjusting slightly if you do hear the noise, if not it’s likely to be lid mechanism

I normally put new connectors on if there’s any sign of overheating, if you’re not sure then it may pay to get an engineer to look at it
