If you allow for the fact that Hotpoint are now owned by Indesit and some of Indesit’s troublesome electronics have already crept into the Hotpoint machines, then Penguin 45’s advice is very sound. I have a customer with a 27 year old Hotpoint, the current machines will be lucky to see 7 years 😥

Iadom – Seven years would be more of a ‘miracle’ than ‘luck’ 😆

    Re: Hotpoint DWF50 heater

I think I will go with Dave’s advice as if it is at the back it explains why i could not find it – but thanks everyone for your help.

This machine is electronic with an heater error code. I strongly suspect the relay on the module but want to check the supply to the heater first.

    Andy 😀

PS I felt a bit of a titty telling the customer i could not find the heater, but I have come to the conclusion that it is better to be up front about these things.

Iadom – I don’t know whether this will be any use but i traced the wires on CNF to:-

    1 Pressure s/w (4P16 (red)
    2 Pump
    3 Pressure s/w (3P11 (2 blue) to mains filter Neutral & On/off switch
    4 Interlock (2MRN)
    5 Pump
    6 Heater (black)
    7 Interlock (3MRL)

(Note:- 5 & 6 are commoned on the module)

This was on a later IDC type module

Not so sure about that Chris – what about the other manufacturers that use manual resets like Zanussi, Crosslee etc?

The only possible problem that i can see is that it does not conform to the original spec even though it might be an improvement.

    Andy 😀

EDIT:- Sorry I thought you were talking about manual resets. Yes I agree wholeheartedly it is not safe to use an auto reset in place of a one shot as it does not address the underlying fault.

    Dear Mr Qualtex,

I don’t know whether you have read this thread

    http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … highlight=

But it is about the same subject. Have a read and consider using the 120 deg resettable stat in your kit. This would make everyone happy, even the customer who would not have to fork out £XX every time these things blow.

From a safety point of view it does exactly the same job. If the customer is instructed to make sure the condenser and filter are checked regularly and not to open the door or prematurely end the program then if it persists in tripping they call out the engineer to sort the underlying fault(eg. short circuit stat).

Simple but effective – not to good for Mr Macaroni.

Of course if you want to continue to pocket a wedge like Mr Macaroni then you keep using his one shots.

    Re: Creda 37747 Condenser dryer

I think its time we established a few facts about these thermostat kits that Hotpoint have fitted to their machines.

The one shot thermal fuse is fitted as a last resort ie. when all the other devices fail (it is the highest temperature device).

The reason it is a one shot device is so that the underlying problem will have to be resolved, (which is not the case with an auto resetable device). ie. the machine permanently stops heating.

The problem is not so much with the one shot device but because of the narrow temperature margin between it and the resetable which is fitted to the heater plate. I can say this with certainty as many earlier Creda models used a one shot in the form of a microtemp fitted near the heater and these were never any problem.

As i said in the earlier post there is no problem whatsoever in fitting a manual reset with equivalent temp thresholds in place of the one shot (as other manufacturers do). If the underlying problem is not sorted then it will continue to trip and the nuisance factor will cause the operator to get it fixed anyway (unless it is a door opening / turning off prematurely issue). In which case it is down to educating the operator on proper use.

The original stat kits (red spot) had an even tighter margin and lower temps than the green spot. That is, it only had to stray a few degrees over the thermostat temp for the one shot to blow. Given that these are bi-metal devices anyway and not very accurate its asking for problems. The failure rate on these was so high that it must have even made Mr Hotpoint blush, so he relented slightly.

Let us not be decieved. These machines were designed to have voracious appetites for stat kits to generate income for whoever – . As i said earlier i am not complaining as we need to earn a crust too.

Many thanks Iadom, it looks like its a heater circuit problem

Least i’ve got some idea where to poke around now.

    Much appreciated.

    Re: Hotpoint DWF50 fault codes

    Hi Martin

Can’t find any error codes for this m/c on page two, unless i am missing something.

The only one that comes anywhere near is this on page three:-

Models DC27/28 NB different to the codes for DWF40/50

But the codes on the DWF50 use different LED’s. There are a bank of seven LED’s (with a salt LED above the first) on the R/H side of panel. On the left hand are the four LEDs mentioned in the page three post.

The fault codes on the DWF50 are on the first bank of seven.

    Thanks for the advice.

The only reason Hotpoint don’t do this is because they are making a fortune on these stat kits. Other manufacturers fit manual reset stats as standard so why don’t they? It does show the huge difference between manufacturers attitudes. Crosslee for instance often have their resetable easily accessable on the rear panel for the user. Zanussi use a resetable on many of their m/c but hide it under the heater access panel so most people will still call an engineer for the problem.

Having said that from our point of view they are nice little earners so not complaining!

    Re: Deleting posts

Well Ken you would think so. The edit button tool tip says edit and delete and yet no option usually is available. I would’nt have know how it worked apart from the single time that the check box option was shown.

I assumed it had beem disabled. It is possibly better like this because if people were able to delete it might spoil the continuity of the thread as you would have posts making reference to non-existant posts which would be confusing.

On the other hand it would be desirable to be able to delete a posts under certain circumstances.

Incidentaly, have you ever tried using HTML. Some tags work ok while others don,t so it is only a partial implementation. This bold italic text uses HTML tags rather than BBcode tags

Maybe only HTML tags that are the equiv of the implemented BBcode tags work.

    Hey Cyclean

I hope this idea of yours does’nt take off. I would hate to have to retrain as a bicycle mechanic at my age.

Seriously though i can see how this would be a real asset in places where there is no electricity available. It would certainly be an alternative to two stones down on the river bank. I can’t see it catching on here though might be a problem fitting it into the average kitchen.

Still, best of luck with it

    Kevin

I don’t think you need to convince us on the benefits of this package and it was not my intention to put you guys on the defensive, far from it! As I said in my first post re: project X, i personally think that the whole concept is superb and I congratulate you guys on actually pulling it off.

You guys already know the price difference between x and the ‘shop version’ and so are in a much better position to judge whether the difference is enough to be a problem. ie. are the package benefits worth the difference.

I hope fervently that they are and that the customer will percieve it to be so, as I would hate to see this venture fall flat on its face at the first hurdle. There is far too much at stake for that to happen and i don’t just mean that with regard to any financial commitments that might have been made.

This is probably the greatest and only opportunity to change the face of white goods retailing for the better – for both ourselves and the consumers out there who are getting screwed from all angles. For this reason it is important to get it right!

I am sorry if i have opened a can of worms but this really needed discussing.
