The problem with condensation is it is very difficult to prevent. Even enclosing the board within a plastic bag will not fully stop it. Probably the best remedy is after giving the board a good dry and clean and checking for correct operation to spray it with a coat of clear varnish on the solder side.

The only problem with this is that it makes future repairs difficult and messy.

    Hi

Does the m/c fill, stop filling and then pump out

    or

fill for a while then pump out simultaniously

    or

fill and pump out simultaniously from the start?

    Hi Martin

These relays are very common I usually get mine from CPC

    PN:-SW01454 – 12v

The Heater relay is adjacent to CN1.

    Re: Indesit wd12uk, w103

Can’t understand why everybody distrusts the error codes on these machines to the extent that that it is the last thing to be checked. In my experience code 8 is usually pretty accurate and is faulty heater relay contacts. In most cases changing the relay sorts the problem. The microcontroller monitors the output from the relay and if it does not get any response signifies this error.

As these little relay contacts handle all the heater current, common sense says that they are a prime failure point, but it is also very possible for this to be an intermittant fault so checking the board does not necessarily uncover the problem. It is better to change the relay to make sure. At £1 for the part and 5 mins to do the job it is an easy way to eliminate the componant.

I know that these machines are a pain and i hate them as much as the next person but to be fair i have had one of these rigs on my bench and simulated most fault conditions. Most times the error report is accurate although sometimes the time it takes to report the fault varies a huge amount.

Having said that, using a rig on a bench is a lot different to in an environment where the board can become damp due to condensation. This can easily produce spurious errors due to the high impedence nature of IC I/O’s on the board.

So first make sure the board is bone dry and clean as Tony advises.

Thanks Iadom I did not see that post. The reason I began to doubt that it was for an overfill condition is because i poured extra water into the machine to simulate an overfill but no water came out of the hose. I actually covered completely the grey plastic thingy that has holes around it but did not get any water out ?? Is this the syphon device that SDL mentions

“she has prob pulled off or broken the syphon device this lets water into base pan if machine overfills, it screws in i think, “

Best thing with these m/c is to carry a spare module to try in. I have had this problem a few times and replacing the module usually sorts it. These modules (R/H top of machine) seem to be fairly standard and even look to be the same on the present models, so worth having one available as a tester.

As the motorised selector switches are an analogue device returning a resistance that varies with the selected position, apart from the switch wiper being a bad contact or damaged (due to anitclockwise use) IMO they are not usually much trouble. The switch motor is controlled directly from the module so any erratic behaviour of the switch is due to the module, so its best to eliminate this first IMO.

I use Tiscali 2meg + unlimited phone calls for £22 / month and find it OK. It used to drop the connection but since i have installed a wireless IDSL router it works faultlessly. I have three machines on my network all having simultanious internet access with no probs. On a site with a good fast ftp server download speed is around 231 MB/s.

There have been some problems with Tiscali, i suspect that maybe they have been upgrading /installing new equipment but it seems fine now.

This is probably a ‘thicky’ question but who or what is AGORA?

Also are these disks able to be copied?

    Job sorted

Found the heater OK and it was o/c.

I was quite impressed with the ease of access on these models. Bottom panel off (six screws) and everything very easy to work on. Not like some dishwashers today.

    Thanks everyone, very much appreciated.

It appears that your contact 5 is my contact 3. This looks like the main Neutral on the m/c side of the on/off s/w as I traced it to the mains filter too.

Might it be worth checking the mains filter ?
