Re: HPT CTD85 Drum support wheel

Pity really as fitting the bearing pads is very quick compared to a belt change and the metal rear bearings don’t seem to wear much.

I can’t see the point of graphite bearings even though it is self lubricating it is softer than plastic so i can’t see it lasting any longer.

Anyway thanks for the info Jim – much appreciated.

I have done a couple of these since my post – not too bad! Is there anywhere that sells non GEN bearings for these as the HPT ones are extortionate (rather than buying the kit). The old non gen will not do as the plastic housing is much thicker than the metal was.

    Re: Infamous SMEG E2 and E1 error…

Just to drag this subject up again – i always have problems with these leaking from one or more of the ‘o’ seal joints at the bottom when refitting. I hate removing these for cleaning for this reason. Has anyone a solution for this problem?

I mentioned in another thread on this subject that to me the real issue is what is the stance of your Public liability insurer with regard to working on dual fuel apps.

My advice is ‘find out’ and get it in writing. At least if anything does go wrong you won’t end up with a £X,000,000 lawsuit on your hands and if your insurer regards you as competent it would probably be helpful in any other proceedings that might be brought against you.

Thanks gentlemen for your swift replies. From what you say it is advisable to suppose that no bearings are fitted and to fit the complete kit, so that will i do, i will to be sure.

Thanks a million have a great holiday

    Re: Hotpoint VTD20 T/dryer

Hi – I discounted the door lock as when the door is shut the ‘active’ light comes on, the timer runs and the heater comes on.

I went to this machine again to check the motor as she said she had smelled burning. When i tried it the machine worked ok for a while, i twiddled with the timer for a while and eventually it went off.

The symptoms are similar to the relay problems where the relay dropped out after running a while. Do these new modules suffer from similar problems?

My gut feeling is still the timer as the machine would not start at all last time. This would seem to rule out the relay module as i stopped and started it quite a few times before it went off on the last visit.

I tried a new capacitor but there does’nt seem to be any juice to the motor. Normally i would suspect the relay unit but i bypassed the relay contacts and still no sign of life.

Thanks anyway i will probably go for the timer.

    Hi Jim

Have you tried taking of all the edge connectors and tightening the little connectors – push them together with a tiny screwdriver and make sure the PCB pads are clean.

I have had some odd faults with these zanussis’s just down to bad connections. Its worth a try.

The only Meile machines i have repaired have been fairly old machines that had a hinged front panel, do newer machines still have this feature?

    Re: WEEE

If the Civic amenity is a registered DCF then they must accept your weee free of charge according to these regs. As i understand it the financing from this point is provided by the producers.

As to the transfer of weee as waste i don’t know, maybe someone else has some info as to what waste catagory white goods fall into.

    WEEE – Government guidence notes:- (Chapters 3 & 4)

    http://www.berr.gov.uk/files/file41012.pdf

Item 42 in Chapter 4 of these notes states that it is not necessary to record individual transactions with customers. So even the signed copy is not necessary, just a record (sample) of the information that you gave to them.

    Interesting article here:-
