I can’t help with contract work questions; as I’ve never had any contract work or dealings with work providers. Sorry!!
ATM, I’m trying to work through the Consumer Protection From Unfair Trading Regs (all 50 pages). These TS guys have too much time on their hands. :rolls:
I feel sorry and angry for all the guys caught up in MFI and Servis’ debacle; but I am afraid I do agree with Chris that if these regs I’m looking at now are anything to go by, we have a long day ahead of us on the Friday and Saturday. 🙁Steve.

I can’t find it either – but I had another one (in the same mews) last week with an on / off button broken. That was a bit easier though…….
Checked and double – checked the numbers, definitely right; straight off the service label right side of the door.
Don’t know what else I can offer ATM…….. 😕Thanks,
Steve.

Approx. how much for a dispenser? Just to upset myself by how much Connect will charge me. I’m getting a bit fed up with their constant price rises……. 🙁
Thanks,

Thanks, Chris!!
Annoying thing is….damn thing works fine for me. 👿 I’ll just have to swap those 2 items and see. I have 11 of the same machine in a 3 year old mews type development – and all seem to be failing now. Is the dispenser solenoid available separately? (I think I already know the answer!! 😀 ) It’s the valve coil type not the heated servo type.Steve.

Most familys want bigger than a 5kg drum and not all can afford an ISE5.
So I sell Hoover to make a sale. I’m here to make money after all. 😉Now I personally wouldn’t sell anyone a Hoover / Candy because I don’t believe they are a quality machine. Also, as Lawrence says, no after sales service to benefit your business. So why would you do it? “I’m here to make money after all” is the quote above. Well I am here to make money too, not mentioning the Hotpoint cover is equivalent to selling low quality machines (and knowing it) to a customer if you really adhere to the moral compass. So…..we all do it….because we are all trying to make a living and it ain’t easy. 😉
And the “advise given is variable to the money you guess the customer has?? ” comment is a bit harsh, don’t you think? I simply meant that if a customer is not prepared to spend on their machine or is griping about the cost of fixing a machine, I will pass it on as I don’t need the hassle. Just as I would not sell an ISE to a serial washing machine killer based on price alone. Am I wrong to do that as the customer would benefit from free repairs under warranty. With ISE it would pay me to sell them to such people as I am paid for each repair. I don’t want or need the “your machine has gone wrong” quip being said to me. So I don’t do it. That’s my opinion.Steve.

They are all different – some have the motorized bias valve that alternates pressure between the top and bottom rotors, some don’t. Some have a turbidity sensor – some don’t. Some have both or none of the above fitted.
Too much of a lottery to guess and too much work to strip the machine in vain – quote for and fit the correct part only. Sorry!!Hope that helps,
Steve.

My viewpoint is always from the customers not the manufacturers.
Steve, its nice to feel there is someone on a similar wavelength!
Steve, what would you do in this scenario:
9 years old WM52 with drum and bearings shot, door not locking easily and motor hovering around the 1Mohms?
would you write the machine off?
advise them to go back to hotpoint (due their new pricing scheme?)I would have always written off the machine with the intention of selling them a new one.
Considering I’m selling 3 to 6 new machines a week I’m obviously concerned for the implications of this new pricing scheme, especially if it becomes more widespread.
To answer those points, I would say the WM52 is BER. BUT… would I surrender the job – No. If the customer has no money then maybe; but generally, they are MY customer that called ME for MY service. Indesit will probably BER the WM52 and pressure sell them a new Indesit pile of s*** while they’re in the house. Your customer, that you looked after, who 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time would choose you over big business anyway. I think the difference between the manufacturers service and ours is the difference between Tesco supermarket and the local greengrocer. People come to us BECAUSE we are flexible and provide a good service, not just for price. If pricing was their only consideration, then not a single ISE 10 would have been sold because they are from the independents with no publicized track record or glossy TV advertising. Never underestimate your worth in the eyes of the customer; conceding a job can also look unprofessional. You are almost saying,”This company is better than me”, but it depends on how you view it. When Zanussi brought out the “5 year cover” in the ’80s, many engineers lamented the end of the industry. Well, 20 odd years later, we’re all still here, despite their efforts. I would like to stay in business; so I will repair what the customer wants me to repair, and sell them a new machine when they want one. I will not be dishonest, but by the same token, I have a mortgage to pay. Will Indesit pay me a commission on the customers I hand to them? No chance. So will I jeopardize my business? No.
The point is, before it was raised in this forum, no-one was aware of this development.
The only bit I don’t agree with you Tim, is the willingness to put other people’s welfare way above your own, in the process maybe killing your own business. I’m sure you wouldn’t do that, so a balance has to be struck. So in the case of the WM52, I would write it off and let the customer decide what they want to do from there. Same as I have done for 25 years.Steve.

Do you tell them about the 5 years parts cover on hotpoint machines ❓The advice you give should always be in the best interests of the customer.
If the machine is under 12 months old, then obviously, you would advise the customer to contact the manufacturer. If it was over the year , then I would inform them only if the repair was over the £99 – if it was, then the choice is with the customer. If the bearings had failed or the PCB had blown then, yes, why not pass it on to Indesit; you know you can’t bring those jobs in under £99 anyway. BUT – if it’s under the £99, what would be the point of jeopardizing your position – the customer won’t gain anything. Most customers, as I said earlier, will not wait a week for a repair, so more often than not, we get the job on convenience alone. Therefore, I am not going to walk away from the job because I morally think that the manufacturer should do it – I will let the customer make that choice as it is their money and therefore their right to choose. If they choose me then that’s OK. That is not dishonest or immoral, it’s open and fair. I’m not about to argue with them.
It’s up to the individual, of course; and yes it’s true that moral fibre is a great personal attribute; sadly lacking in most industries (banking 😆 ). But as a member of the WTA, I would be protecting the interests of the WTA member and their customers but I would also trust them both to make fair and informed choices. I would not condone dishonesty in any way.
Inform your customer appropriately and let them make the decision.Steve.

10 days to wait for a repair……..it may be £99 but few will wait that long. Few will wait 3 days…….. 😉 Indesit cannot carry that level of work for long and the stocking of spares for all the older machines is not feasible. The ranges and colour variants available in the last ten years will make spares allocation a mammoth task. It sounds as if Indesit are desperate for work ATM and this seems like a good idea to rake in some cash. And the new PCB’s and their smartcard – Tony at EMW has said in the forums time and again that they can code boards for us without us having to have all the gear………..that’s covered!
I have faith in my customers judgment; with guidance and information (from us) most will not buy Indesit products. I try not to worry about what the manufacturers are plotting as I can’t change it – the answer is to be faster, more conscientious and courteous than the manufacturers service network; well, TBH, most of us indies are all that already.
Indesit are happy to be economical with tech info, happy to crush us indies and take our market share, they don’t care about us………but with such crap products they make it easier for us to advise the customer to migrate to other makes. (ISE!!) 😉
Seven bearing jobs in the last ten days at £110 each; the customers are repairing more now rather than just replacing on a kneejerk reaction. I’m perfectly happy to do bearing jobs though……Steve.

The genuine one is showing at £72 + VAT from Connect. 😯 😯 😯
Looks like the small bracket Philips element – ELE3355 from Connect @ £3.85 + VAT. Sizes seem to match. 😉

Thanks, Phidom – this is a really strange one. 😕 I can’t think it can be anything else but a dispenser unit, but like the LG machines, neither show any obvious signs of failure. Turning the water pressure up or down makes little difference.
Any other thoughts please?Steve.
