ParticipantRe: Neff fan oven elements
Unfortunately, we’ve still not got to the root of the problem of these Mickey Mouse elements. Martin mentioned almost immediately there were mods for these ovens to sort out our woes.
Any info on the mods greatly appreciated – need an answer!!! 😕
Hope someone can help! :haier:aqualectric
ParticipantRe: 1600474 Brushes Again
Can’t think of a reason then apart from substandard parts.

ParticipantRe: 1600474 Brushes Again
When the brushes melt always check the pump is not stalling or noisy – like a blocked sump it can take out the brushes and sometimes the armature or t.o.c. Seen this time and time again.
I’ve had the dodgy brushes fail within a week on machines that have had a new armature and pump. 😥
Not had any of them for about six months now, only the white ones, mine aren’t that ‘dull’ either. 🙂

ParticipantRe: SMEG DISHWASHER MOD DWF66
Not all that familiar with Smeg stuff, but could it be in safety mode ie. won’t fill due to blockage / overfill (think of Hotpoint or Zanussi water valves locked off)? Maybe it tries to fill, senses the alarm situation and shuts down, then tries again,no fill then shut down. Just a thought!!! 😕

ParticipantRe: Tricity-Bendix Cooker fan moter screws
Locate your screwdriver in the screw heads and tap several times with a hammer. This slightly compresses the grip washer and ‘shocks’ the screw just enough to undo it relatively easily. Be sure your screwdriver head is in good condition to minimise slipping in the screwhead.(Zanussi mostly use Philips head screws NOT pozidriv). 😉
To locate the motor you can use a mole wrench set just to ‘pinch’ motor shaft. (NOT the threaded bit!!) With one hand, offer up the motor and push shaft through back panel of the oven. With the other hand you then grip the motor shaft as close to the back panel (inside the oven) as you can. (your arms will just reach). Motor can then be swiveled around to locate screw holes. 8)aqualectric
ParticipantRe: Neff fan oven elements
Model numbers of them there pesky varmints:
Neff double ovens:- U1421BOGB/01 (brown)
U1421WOGB/01 (white)
Amazingly enough, I visited the homes of BOTH of these serial element killers TODAY!!! One house to fit a fourth element to the brown oven and the other house to repair a dishwasher so noted the white oven model no.(OK at the moment – phew!!) Funny they are both the same model.
So does this back panel / element mod apply to these? Also could I have a list of similarly affected ovens? My customer contacted Neff and Magnet kitchens who both had “never heard of this problem before”. No surprise there, hey? 🙄
I am heartened to see that I am not alone with this trouble. Thanks in anticipation…… ❗aqualectric
ParticipantRe: Neff fan oven elements
Unfortunately, this customer is one that hovers around you like a mosquito asking questions and to be honest, it would be great to have a concrete or at least a plausible reason why this keeps happening. To shut the door as you are leaving is a welcome relief. He is a nice enough chap though, and has given us several recommendations so you feel the cost of the fifteen minutes or so of your time to swap the element is probably worth it in customer relations terms.
The element concerned is actually, as you say, the ‘no studs’ version. Apart from the studs, are they different?
I’m doing the job later today so I’ll get the E number etc. and check back on that info about mods to the oven back panels – thanks for that. Then I’ll turn over the hourglass and wait for the next time….. 😳aqualectric
ParticipantRe: hotpoint wf240 sticking
Test the thermistor/s and associated wiring. As this is an In-de-s*it based machine it’s possible these can give you strange results on test. Best of luck!!

ParticipantRe: Long Life Cooker is this a record.
Going to a Hotpoint 18680 (1979) on Monday- almost certainly only motor brush fault. This machine right up to WM series hpt’s and their counterparts(Zanussi, Hoover etc) were in many ways far more ‘green’ than today’s offerings. You could effect a good, cost-effective repair which would give you tremendous job satisfaction and also just dispose of a small part – less to recycle as less is thrown away. Parts were easily adaptable and more interchangeable than modern auto’s. Machines were run by a electro-mechanical timer – did the same job but without the ‘chocolate teapot’ reliability of the modern PCB’s.
And above all, they washed much better, much quicker, hardly ever got smelly as they used enough water to do the job, and lasted eight to ten years with ease. Most customers were very pleased with their machines.
Ask the average person what they want from a washing machine and they will say all of the above. The longevity of life of the old machines meant they were, argueably,on the whole more cost-effective than a modern machine pound for pound. Lots of my customers regret throwing away their old machines now, and I can offer them little consolation that things will improve. Unfortunately the world is ruled by accountants; most of them couldn’t run a bath let alone a business. We can only live in hope…… 😥 -
