Blame enonomy7. People put things on overnight and never hear the noise. The amount of times I’ve been to WM’s with bearings that sound like a worn out steam roller but the customer has never ‘heard’ a noise is amazing!

Same for me as far as the bit of paper goes.

On the course that I did there were about 10 people, 2 or 3 of those that failed happened to be ‘in house maintenance electricians’ for quite large companies 😯

Done both management and operative PAT courses and tbh it’s not really a money maker on it’s own. As an addition to the appliance repair side it’s a help, but I wouldn’t recommend doing it to make a living out of.

Not for me, full days work ahead.

On a similar note, I went to a customer two weeks ago to find his LG Dw needed a new circ pump. Quoted him £90 for the pump + fitting.

Got a call back a week later to say he’d sourced the pump much cheaper off the net and would I go back and fix it? I didn’t really want to, but the office insisted so I went back and discovered this ‘much cheaper pump’ was in fact the drain pump…. you really do have to laugh 🙂

    Re: Performing Rights Society

Tell them you compose your own music and lyrics, but your dog likes to ‘howl’ along to you whilst you’re performing your own songs.

Ask them if your dog is breaking the copyright and does he need a separate PRS license as he’s not authorised to howl along.

That should keep some moronic tw@t busy for an hour.

    Re: Performing Rights Society

It will ultimately rebound on all but the top artists anyway. People no longer listening to music at work will not be exposed to new music and new artists, so therefore will no longer hear something they like and be tempted to go out and buy the album/single.

Also, as the radios around the country are switched off in the small work places, commercial radio will see their listener base plummet (most commercial stations pander to the workplace community during the day) and therefore their advertising revenue will go the same way.
Be prepared to commercial stations struggling or merging just to survive. When there’s only a few left playing only a limited playlist, watch the royalties plummet.

This is short sighted money grabbing imo, and it will bite them on the backside in the long run.

Apologies, I was only going by what some BBC guy said on radio 4 last week. 🙁 Just goes to show even the broadcaster don’t have a clue what they’re doing.

    Mike.

Not true, check it out. The law was changed recently to ‘any device that is capable of displaying a TV picture will need a TV licence.’ This includes PC’s, mobile phones, PDA’s etc. Although having a home TV license covers all of the above.

No, it’s the ones that ring and say ‘do you remember me, you fixed my washer 3 years ago’………… and they haven’t even given you their name yet!! 😯

Re: Whats the most annoying thing customers do?

Had one today, LG frost free combi, big American style. After spending 30/40 mins diagnosing the fault and explaining it to the customer he decided he only wanted to partially pay the call out charge.

His reasoning was that he expected me to fix it there and then and that would be included in the call out fee (£25 +vat).
Despite the fact that we originally refused to go to the call as we very rarely touch LG’s, he then begged us to go as there was nobody else in the area that would touch it.

The only compensation I’ll get is if and when he rings back to have the repair done I’ll have the pleasure of refusing to set foot in his house ever again. 👿

    Re: best toolboxes?

I use a relatively cheap Briefcase (with divider) costing about £40.

Advantages are that it looks the part, I can keep all my paperwork etc. in as well as the most essential tools, plus if I accidentally catch a door or wall it won’t scratch or mark them so saves that embarrassing and expensive claim.

Usually lasts between six months to a year.
